It remains the mystery at the heart of Boeing Co.s 737 Max crisis: how a company renowned for meticulous design made seemingly basic software mistakes leading to a pair of deadly crashes. Longtime Boeing engineers say the effort was complicated by a push to outsource work to lower-paid contractors.
The Max software -- plagued by issues that could keep the planes grounded months longer after U.S. regulators this week revealed a new flaw -- was developed at a time Boeing was laying off experienced engineers and pressing suppliers to cut costs.
Increasingly, the iconic American planemaker and its subcontractors have relied on temporary workers making as little as $9 an hour to develop and test software, often from countries lacking a deep background in aerospace -- notably India.

It was.
Now they can see what their ‘cost savings’ is.................
These $9 an hour Engineers were probably designing the passenger seats.
I’ll bet big money they had nothing to do with the flight systems or anything critical.
I suspect you bet wrong. Did you read the article or just excerpt?
“On the day the accident occurred I posted about which country was the software written in?...”
Which country?
“You mean like H1B Visas?”
WORSE...the “engineers” are in India and probably other low-cost countries where Boeing would have very limited control of software quality. At least with an H1B visa holder working in the states you’d have U.S. managers and QC people reviewing the work.
Well, yeah...I saw that, but it said “...from countries lacking.......notably India...”
I took that as being from any number of countries....LOL...It probably WAS India, though...
Even Babe Ruth struck out occassionally.
Maybe Los Angeles?
Apparently they imported these guys, and they were working in a building at Boeing Field in Seattle.
Can you imaging trying to live in the Seattle area on $9 an hour?
The law should be changed to require all H1B visas to be paid at three times the prevailing wage of US Citizens working the same job. If there really is a critical labor shortage, the company should be prepared to pay more, right?
Suddenly the shortage would miraculously disappear...
I’VE MADE A GOOD LIVING FIXING SOFTWARE WRITTEN BY THESE HIB VISA HOLDERS.
I SWEAR THE BRAIN DRAIN IS LONG SINCE COMPLETE
I THINK THEY ARE GIVING OUT DEGREES WITH 3 CEREAL BOX TOPS THERE THESE DAYS.
I foyu look at the development timeline for the 373Max8. It was developed from 2011 onward. A time when EVERY corporation was shedding their senior/experienced staff for the new Obamaites whom they could pay half, and outsource to places like India.
With inexperienced software writers and inexperienced program managers it is no surprise of what happened.
Yeah, I guess they could code in between phone calls at the help desk.
Looks like MSN re-posted the same Bloomberg article discussed here:

They can out source all they want to low cost OR high cost designers. But, bottom line, if they don’t do good QA, they are responsible for any poor results.
I work with many H1B engineers and I would take the work of an associate degree technician before I’d listen to the H1Bs.
I’m really sick of engineers who know how to use a finite element program. I want an engineer who knows how to use the program and is aware of how to properly set up a model that mimics the real world.
LOL - oh yeah...
The problem is that it was not reviewed.
Yeah that’s not so bad when you’re screwing up your own life.
When you’re endangering others...it’s criminal.
It wasn’t to save money, it was to sell planes to India and China.
