Disentangling the Renewable Energy Scam
americanthinker.com ^ | 7/1/2019 | Norman Rodgers

The solar energy industry is telling its pals in Congress that it is willing the lose most of its subsidies. The current subsidy for solar is 30% of the construction cost. To that subsidy, an additional 10% subsidy is available due to special fast depreciation for solar energy plants. The 30% subsidy is scheduled to ramp down to 10% by 2022 and thereafter remain at 10%. This is not a consequence of declining costs of solar that makes the industry no longer in need of such a large subsidy. Solar electricity is a mature industry, and cost declines are moderate. The real reason the solar people are happy with a lower subsidy is that the 30% investment tax credit (ITC) is not their most important subsidy. The real subsidy is more complicated and better hidden.

Butt, butt, butt................ Lucky us in NV just had legislation put in place requiring 50% of NV energy come from 'renewables' by 2030. Or else. Or else what, I don't really know. And the assclowns bought it lock, stock, solar panel and windmill. Somebody intends to make big bux off this fiasco.

There is no such thing as ‘renewable’ energy.........or ‘green’ energy......or ‘sustainable’ energy.................

The only one that comes close is nuclear power plants.

the solution is nuclear

The Japanese have a high IQ hiring pool and even they couldn't do it. In theory accidents practically couldn't happen yet in practice there's a serious accident about every 10 years.

Invest in nuclear all you want but even with massive government support, nuclear has proven to be an expensive and dangerous loser. There are cheaper and safer sources of energy.

You’re completely wrong about nuclear particularly in light of the new reactor designs.

“.....The Japanese have a high IQ hiring pool and even they couldn’t do it. ....

Wasn’t very “High IQ” to put your reactor on an active fault!

Case in point, drive out around Palmdale CA and you’ll be buying the rope.

Well, there was a post a while back regarding the most dangerous product in the world being concrete.

in light of the new reactor designs

New and improved! LOL. Nuclear power isn't illegal, it's just no sane investor would fund them anymore. It has to be a big government project and we all know how those go.

Interestingly, Nevada is one of the few places in the USA where the annual climate is actually conducive to solar power. Figure out a way to store all that energy generated from the Sun in daytime and Nevada could become a big electric power just from solar power.

That part about the sunshine is correct. Storage is a little more of an issue.

Yeah, somebody will make money off this deal or it wouldn’t have been struck. The electricity consumer will be the one taking it in the shorts. How about a break for the consumer for a change? It only stands to reason that if a “renewable” energy source has to be subsidized to make it work, then somebody has to pay the subsidy. End result is that the consumer pays more & more & the whole thing accomplishes no useful purpose except that the poor man creates wealth for some investor.

“Case in point, drive out around Palmdale CA and you’ll be buying the rope.”

I have. They have literally ruined the Mojave and the Sonora desert permanently. I can’t decide if I want to cry or rage every time I see it. These things are springing up like toxic weeds everywhere in the Nevada desert. All because cronies and politicians need there endless free taxpayer money fountain to flow unobstructed. Just spew endless daily stories of gloom and doom for the planet, and the easily manipulated and the young especially will demand every snake oil crony salesman be enriched for life. This is the real reason people hate Trump with such passion. It is always about money. Always. If astronomical sums of money were not on the line, globalists would simply consider Trump an annoyance that will simply disappear in a few years...but Trump is actually dismantling these little fiefdoms, and he is far rich enough to not need a couple million dollar bribe.

OH really?!? When was the last nuclear accident in the USA?

It’s much more about what the communist/socialist minded msm thinks we should allow or not. The ‘renewables’ are not as green as purported esp. when developmental and environmental costs are factored in - something the press does not care to inform for the general public. Heck, the wind turbines should be outlawed simply for all the endangered birds they are killing not to mention what an ugly eyesore...

Couple years ago we made a trip to Vegas but came back to Reno the ‘long’ way and not happy to spot some “Vista killers” in a lonesome valley near the east side of the state. Only 5 or 6 but pretty disgusting to find in the middle of NFW.
