Former Vice President Joe Biden, who is under fire for praising segregationists, lied about his stance on busing to desegregate public schools again on Thursday. “I never, never, never opposed voluntary busing,” Biden told an audience gathered in Chicago, Illinois.
The statement, however, is in direct contradiction to Biden’s more than 40-year career in public office.
“I oppose busing,” Biden told a local Delaware newspaper in 1975. “It’s an asinine concept, the utility of which has never been proven to me… I’ve gotten to the point where I think our only recourse to eliminate busing may be a constitutional amendment.”
At the time, Biden recognized that his views effectively put him in the same camp as avowed racists and segregationists.
“The unsavory part about this is when I come out against busing, as I have all along, I don’t want to be mixed up with a George Wallace,” he said.
Biden proceeded to explain that if busing was allowed to go forward, there would be profoundly negative impacts on society.
“The real problem with busing,” he said. Is “you take people who aren’t racist, people who are good citizens, who believe in equal education and opportunity, and you stunt their children’s intellectual growth by busing them to an inferior school . . . and you’re going to fill them with hatred.”
During the first Democrat presidential debate on Thursday, Biden was confronted about that position on busing by Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA).
“There was a little girl in California who was part of the second class to integrate her public schools and she was bussed to school every day. That little girl was me,” Harris said. “So I will tell you that on this subject, it cannot be an intellectual debate among Democrats. We have to take it seriously”

I lived in Delaware when Biden made these statements. Busing was mandated by the courts and was extremely unpopular. Joe went with the flow but did nothing to mitigate the effects. Good suburban schools became racial war zones. Private schools popped up overnight. Pulled my two kids out of public schools. One went to parochial and the other to a private school. The previously excellent public schools went downhill fast.
The candidates today will not admit the busing failure that ordinary people know was the case. Biden was right then but can’t admit it now.
Biden was correct on this.
Busing was a massive failure forced upon citizens by the government.
Willies Whore, if indeed she was bused, is only one of millions of children bused. She wants sympathy because she was bused? She’s a race baiting pig.
Miss Willies Whore and the press owe Biden a apology. Biden though, still lied about it last night and again today.
The day he announced, I picked July 4.
He will fall terribly ill over the holiday and will withdraw due to health concerns and needing to spend his last days with family. Well, that will be his excuse.

My question is: what are the practical considerations in such a move? If there have been quite a few primary votes and delegates assigned, what happens to those delegates? Would the recipient have to assign them to whoever was swooping in to save the party? How could this work within their system?

“Voluntary” is a weasel word. He’s not lying - merely deceiving with his sentence construction.
The Breitbart writers should know better than playing to stupid outrage.
The outrage can be raised by pointing out his deception with the word voluntary.

Her parent’s were pretty well off...I don’t even know if she was bused at all. Seems like a crazy thing to lie about but I doubt she was going to an awful inner city school.
Good questions. I do not know. They’d figure something out even if it’s underhanded or illegal. On that you can bet.
