In a major blow to election reformers, the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday rejected efforts to rein in electoral map manipulation by politicians aimed at entrenching one party in power, a contentious practice known as partisan gerrymandering that critics have said warps democracy.
In a 5-4 ruling that could reverberate through U.S. politics for years to come, the justices ruled that federal judges do not have the have the ability to curb partisan gerrymandering.

"House of Representatives Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, a Democrat, said in a statement, Partisan gerrymandering is fundamentally corrosive to democracy."

8th district (2003-2013)
To define “gerrymandering,” you will have to define “NONgerrymandering.”
Fits like a snake is an apt description indeed.
Did they remember to include “for Democrats” in the opinion?
That's mighty "supreme" of them.
Supreme Court allows Politicians to be political!

I’d really like all districts to be shaped as quadrilaterals. Move a line a little East or West. More a line a little North or South. Always be a quadrilateral. Choose a size which captures roughly the number of voters needed by the district.
No gerrymandering, No funny business.
There are two solutions to redistricting:
1. Adopt the following rules:
a. Do not allow district lines to cross a body of water including oceans, lakes, rivers, streams, and big puddles.
b. Do not allow district lines to cross busy streets.
c. Do not offend Transgenders or anyone else suffering from perpetual grievances.
d. Do not allow any district lines that are not approved by the ACLU, Antifa, George Soros, and MSNBC.
2. Let the State Legislatures do it, as directed by the Constitution.
Maybe we should call it “GerryNadlering”...............
We have a district LINE IN DESTIN that cuts thru an apartment building..............
Nadler's modern version took that even a step further going from salamander to snake.
“In a major blow to election reformers”
No bias there, right?!
“Partisan gerrymandering is fundamentally corrosive to democracy.” Good work — It’s not every day Nadler is caught telling the truth.
Ironic that this was not a problem until the repubs started winning state houses and controlled the redistricting process. As soon as that happened, here comes the lawsuits.
The constitution in clear in this. The politicians decide. Don’t like it change the constitution.
But they also need to allow both sides to gerrymander. Right now only the left gets away with it.
And only Democrat judges would rule against gerymandering and they would only do that in lawsuits against Republicans.
Under liberal/leftwing two-tier justice the Nadlers would alway be protected.
Take a look at what Pervocrats* are doing locally with Chicago ward maps. Example former 23rd word past and present half of which is given to the 14th (Edmund Burke charged with shakedowns) *alleged democratic practitioners pushing perversity .
Sorry would like to show the difference but Limited technically can’t do research
Unfortunately, you are correct...When will the stupid party wake up?
All I know is Democrats were fine with gerrymandering when it benefited them. Fight fire with fire, I say.
You can gerrymander a rectangle just as much as you can gerrymander an amorphous serpentine shape. The difference being people who think only serpentine shapes represent gerrymandered districts will be appeased by rectangular shapes.
Probably the most fair district assignments would be allocating district lines at random and having the voters give an up or down line item to keep the lines for the next elections or roll the dice again.
