Hi Everybody!
(((HUGS))))
Not a bad tour of duty.
Hai laurenmarlowe (((HUGS)))!
Hasn’t the puke Inslee asked them to leave yet?
I was at Fort Lewis for Basic Training in June '69 and then there again in '79-'80.

Bible in a Year: Job 34; Acts 7:4460
Create in me a pure heart, O God. Psalm 51:10
In February 1497, a Monk named Girolamo Savonarola started a fire. Leading up to this, he and his followers spent several months collecting items that they thought might entice people to sin or neglect their religious dutiesincluding artwork, cosmetics, instruments, and dresses. On the appointed day, thousands of vanity items were gathered at a public square in Florence, Italy, and set on fire. The event has come to be known as the Bonfire of the Vanities.
Savonarola might have found inspiration for his extreme actions in some shocking statements from the Sermon on the Mount. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away, said Jesus. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away (Matthew 5:2930). But if we interpret Jesuss words literally, we miss the point of the message. The entire sermon is a lesson on going deeper than the surface, to focus on the state of our hearts rather than blaming our behavior on external distractions and temptations.
The Bonfire of the Vanities made a great show of destroying belongings and works of art, but it is unlikely that the hearts of those involved were changed in the process. Only God can change a heart. Thats why the psalmist prayed, Create in me a pure heart, O God (Psalm 51:10). Its our heart that counts.
What behaviors or distractions might be on your list of vanities? How do you try to manage them?
Holy God, please give me the grace to surrender my heart to You and yield my lifes vanities to the purifying fire of the Holy Spirit.

I was there a month waiting to go to Viet Nam. It rained every day and I had to go back to Colorado to see the sun.

Hi, lauren! (((hugs)))
Great road trip to Washington. Hope it’s not in the hot deserty part. LOL!
Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...are you having summer weather yet? Did you and Penny get out for a hike?
It’s just plain hot here.
It’s between Tacoma and Olympia in the rainy part of the state.
Good to know. I like rain. :)
My daughter is an RN at the base hospital.
I wish we could get her back closer to home, and away from the communist population in Washington.
I was at Ft. Lewis from 4/85 till 10/86. I was with the 3/5 Cavalry in the HQ Commo platoon. At current, I live about 3 blocks from one end of JBLM.
Hi everyone. Hi Lauren, Kathy!

Not all of us are godless commies. Just our governor, and most of the northwest quadrant of the state.
