Former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore is set to announce his plans for the 2020 Alabama senate race on Thursday at 2 p.m. at The Ballroom in Montgomery.
Moore lost the U.S. Senate race in 2017 amid allegations of sexual misconduct with teenagers. Moore denied the allegations. President Donald Trump last month tweeted that Moore cannot win and said Republicans need to retake the seat in the once reliable red state. Democratic Sen. Doug Jones currently holds the position.
The event is open to invited guests and credentialed press.
Lloyd Braun won’t be available - he’s busy doing commercials for State Farm Insurance. Riding around in a car with a happy customer.
Brett Kavanaugh?
On the other hand, if Luther Strange (R-Swamp) had been the nominee, the dirt they would have thrown at him was real, and it would have stuck as well. And it wouldn't have been a bimbo eruption (though that could also have happened), it would have been good old fashioned corruption (as AG of Alabama handing a get-out-of-jail-free card to the governor in exchange for an appointment to the Senate).
I hope neither of them runs again.
So, Alabama needs a Lisa Murkowski?
According to your opinion.
Was pretty much a scandal free judge for 40 years.
Except for being removed from the State Supreme Court twice and have several courts rule against him on his 10 Commandments and forcing jury pools to participate in prayer sessions.
Clearly not an idiot.
Einstein allegedly defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I was trying to go a bit easier on Moore.
There goes another sale!
Days and days. The special election was on December 12th and the accusations broke around November 10th.
And Moore still lost, in spite of a Trump endorsement, a Trump rally, and a resumption of funding by the RNC.
1. He had no personality to make voters enthusiastic about voting for him.
2. He made an ass of himself on the campaign trail any number of times -- riding a horse, waving a gun around on stage at a rally, etc. Any half-assed candidate would know that you don't spend your campaign efforts playing to voters who are going to vote for you anyway. Those antics got him exactly ZERO votes that he wouldn't have gotten without them.
3. The guy took off for the weekend before Election Day to watch a stupid football game in Philadelphia -- 800 miles away from any place in Alabama.
These add up to a miserable candidate who lost an election that he should have won walking away. Item #3 is the portrait of a quitter -- and nobody likes a quitter in politics.
... is a stupid loser because the GOPe threw their support behind the Democrat in the last election cycle.
Right or wrong (and there are plenty of reasons why the GOP leadership was dead-set against him ... What makes you think this is going to change in Moore's favor in 2020?
Sessions!? Are you serious??
I disagree with this. The GOP sabotaged Moore because he was the worst kind of candidate a major political party ever wants to see: an unreliable one.
President Trump endorsed Luther Strange in the primary because Strange voted for 100% of Trump's bills that came up for a vote. You cannot put that at risk by replacing Strange with someone who has spent his entire career in government pissing people -- especially his fellow Republicans in Alabama -- off.
I've seen that complaint a lot, but I do not believe it would have made any difference at all. By the last two weeks, there was nobody left in Alabama who did not know who they were voting for. They had already been hearing the accusations for months and months by that time, and no further campaigning was going to convince those who believed the accusations to change their minds.
For better or for worse, that makes Jeff Sessions a perfect U.S. Senator.
Just ask Joe Biden. :-P
So what's happened over the last three years to change that?
Bannon pissed away a lot of money and a ton of credibility backing that loser in 2017.
If Moore had spent some time campaigning effectively he might have gotten the 25,000 votes he needed to win -- from people in Alabama who didn't vote for anyone at all.
I should have mentioned that among his other *EXCELLENT* qualifications. Any man that tells those f***ing bastard Federal judges to go F*** themselves, is exactly the sort of man we need in the Senate, which approves judges.
It was very courageous of him to stand up to that massive onslaught of cowards and lying bastards, and few men would have the guts to do it!
No, the constitution doesn't create a right to "gay" marriage, and it also doesn't bar states from endorsing religion if they wish, and the 14th amendment was never intended to be interpreted as justification to do such a thing.
No. Alabama needs a conservative who can win an election. Roy Moore has proven he’s incapable of winning.
Again, the bottom line: America needs that Senate seat.
I’m not mentally ill. but you are deliberately avoiding the point I made.
Which means even you realize I won the exchange.
I notice you avoided mentioning the second point I made, even though it’s part of the same sentence.
Why?
That’s because even you know that in it’s entirety my comment was dead on correct.
I’ve seen that complaint a lot, but I do not believe
it would have made any difference at all.
**************
You may well be correct we’ll never know. But for sure we know
he didn’t campaign that hard the last two weeks and lost. I’ve said
and believe if he and his wife had loaded up the trailer with their
two horses and travel around rural small town Alabama, stopped
got the horses out road around the town square, shook some hands,
acted like he really cared and wanted to represent them, I believe
he could have won. We’ll never know now.
Popular vote .. 673,896 .. 651,972
Percentage .... 50.0% ..... 48.3%
