A North Carolina burglary suspect who was fought off by an 11-year-old boy with a machete was caught Sunday, nearly two days after he slipped away from the hospital where he was treated for a head wound. His capture came after a manhunt and finger-pointing about who was to blame for his escape.
Sgt. Shane Brown of the Burlington Police Department said Jataveon Dashawn Hall was arrested in an apartment there Sunday afternoon. Hall, 19, was returned to Orange County, where the sheriffs office said he faces charges including breaking and entering and assault.
Authorities said the boy was alone in the house in Mebane, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) northwest of Raleigh, on Friday morning when Hall broke in after another suspect rang the doorbell and a third waited outside. Hall forced the boy into a closet and was stealing electronics when the boy emerged, grabbed a machete and hit the suspect in the head with the blade, drawing blood, according to the sheriffs office. The boy swung a second time but missed. Authorities didnt say where the machete had been stored.

Authorities didnt say where the machete had been stored.Should have been locked up and inaccessible to a minor. /S
I've been thinking of getting an Assegai short spear. The native name for it cracks me up--it's "Iklwa", supposedly made for the sound it makes when thrust into a body and withdrawn.
"Iklwa", haha.
Maybe there's a screen name in there somewhere.

Smokey Mountain Knife Works will be running full page ads in the newspaper advertising their machete deals.
I think they sell a dozen assorted for about $20. Cheap quality but good enough for whacking up Dindos.

There’s a less adorned one by Cold Steel that looks more business like to me. Search on “Cold Steel Assagai short”

That mug shot indicates Jataveon is looking for an attitude adjustment. A few days in the pen, and after his "bruthas" turn him into a woman, he will be simpering like a baby and crying for his momma.

Reminds me of my son, when he was about the same age. We were both home at night and I wanted to make a quick run to the supermarket. Telling him to sit tight and that I'd be right back, I got into the car and headed out. About a mile down the street I realized I'd forgotten my wallet and turned around to go back and get it. I pulled into the garage, got out of the car, and immediately heard the words "Who's out there?" uttered in the most menacing tones. I looked up to see my son in the doorway, holding a baseball bat.
And yes, I believe he would have used it. A number of years later, when he was in his early twenties and working as night manager of a small local grocery store, he disarmed a shotgun-wielding robber.

FWIW the photo they showed in an earlier article wasn’t a machete.
It was a Bolo knife.

What happened to the kidnapping charges? This article failed to disclose that the perp was also kicking and assaulting the eleven-year-old boy, and locking him in the closet should be a kidnapping charge. Eleven-year-old is a heck of a brave kid, going at the perp with a machete. Should have taken off a leg so the perp wouldn’t run.
