ORLANDO, Fla. - Imagine not being able to pay cash for some of the toll roads you use every day. It's already happened in and around Miami and near Tampa, but now it is going to be happening in Central Florida.
The Florida Turnpike Enterprise confirmed that all Florida's Turnpike roadways are going to all-electronic tolling in a 70-mile stretch from Osceola County to Sumter County by next summer. According to FTE, the project will take place on Florida's Turnpike from Kissimmee Park Road at milepost 239 to I-75, which is at milepost 309.
"They're going to continue on the toll road like they have before, but they're not going to have to merge, not going to have to slow down prior to that," Florida Turnpike's Katie Mitzner said. "So it's going to be safer. It's going to be more convenient."
Mitzner confirmed that the cash tolls at the Leesburg exit are already being prepped for the changeover.
"The big crux of what is going to be taking place is going to be the installation of a gantry that is going to be going over all four lanes," Mitzner said. "And following that, they will demolish the Leesburg toll plaza."
The new gantry will be built over the existing four lanes of the turnpike, about a half mile south of the existing Leesburg toll plaza at milepost 288. The project will include milling and resurfacing, minor widening, lighting, highway signing, guardrail, toll facilities and other construction and safety improvements.
FTA said customers may encounter lane closures, ramp closures and detours at night, weekends and non-peak travel periods.

After tolls and tax increases people end up cashless even a few hours into payday.
PING.
All the easier for ‘big brother’ to monitor your every move.
So all the Ewwwww Yuckers driving down will be stopped at the border?
How will tourist without a toll tag pay these tools?
Looks like I won’t ever visit and spend my money in that State, for the rest of my life.
They have a TOLL-BY-TAG feature where they take your tag info as you pass through and mail you a bill.
It goes without saying that TOLL-BY-TAG fees are higher than if you buy one of the SunPasses.
This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private.
Time for a "Follow That Dream" remake!
Stupid.
Keeping options open is always a good idea.
Texas tollways moved to cashless a decade ago. There were complaints due to some billing , mainly charging late fees per toll vs the monthly bill, leg got that straightened out.
Will car rental companies have transponders?
I got stiffed in LOS Angeles with a fine and then a service charge of nearly a like amount.
So what? Taxachusetts did the same thing some time ago. The business making serious bucks are the rental car agencies at Logan Airport in Boston. It’s damned near impossible to leave or enter the grounds without paying a bridge or tunnel toll of some sort. So, when you rent a car, they’ll also “loan” you a toll pass transponder, at $4/usage day, plus the price of the tolls. Since there’s no way to pay the toll using U.S. legal tender bills, you really have no choice in the situation.
I was just there, and the only toll “stations” I went through, I think, were heading out of the airport and heading back in a week later. Got a $18.00 charge for the service!
OK, I’m a TN resident who might want to take a trip to FL and use that toll way. No problem paying the tolls but how do I do it if they won’t take cash?? Good idea for the locals but tough for the tourists.
Give me Florida and tolls any day over this BS
They take a picture of your tag and send you the bill. You can also visit a toll plaza or grocery such as Publix to buy a transponder and load it with how much you think you’ll use during your stay.
“All the easier for big brother to monitor your every move.”
And who is ‘Big Brother’? Large financial institutions based in New York and Europe have been pushing for this. The same folks that brought you the Fed (the biggest scam in modern history). They can starve you if you don’t comply and they’ve bought our worthless politicians many years ago.
You gotta say some of the dumbest ####ing things on this board sometimes :)
You even surpass your last most stupid thing at times :)
