Brig. Gen. Laura Yeager will make history later this month when she becomes the first woman to command a U.S. Army Infantry Division.
Yeager, a former Black Hawk helicopter pilot who deployed to Iraq, will assume command of the California National Guard's 40th Infantry Division during a ceremony in Los Alamitos, California, on June 29, according to a news release from the California Guard
. . .
Outside of her own career trajectory, Yeager is familiar with military leadership. Her father, Ret. Maj. Gen. Robert Brandt, was also a helicopter pilot who served two tours during the Vietnam War and became a top commander in the California National Guard. Brandt retired in 1999 after four decades of service.

This is BS.
Combat veterans should command other men in Infantry, Armor or Airborne Divisions.
Political correctness creates many oddities. This too shall pass. The nobama effect lingers in many areas.
She is a combat veteran:
“In 2011, she deployed to Iraq as the deputy commander of the California Guard’s 40th Combat Aviation Brigade. In 2011, she deployed to Iraq as the deputy commander of the California Guard’s 40th Combat Aviation Brigade.”
Who would follow a non-combat veteran woman into combat? This is ridiculous.
She should be making sandwiches.
Isn’t flying a helicopter on combat missions combat?
From the halls of Montezuma, to the basement of Filene’s.
Political correctness and nepotism judging from the article. Not saying she is or isnt qualified, but clearly politics, not merit, were deciding factors.
It is combat (flying in combat). But to me the unusual thing is that she’s commanding infantry when her branch is Army Aviation. There aren’t that many infantry divisions and a non-infantry officer just plucked a rare assignment.
When the chips are down, men do not follow women.
It’s a biological reality.
I hope it doesnt take a Chosin Reservoir to make it happen.
This is a decision made by the California Army Guard (Under the command of the Governor) not the US Army
You can take this prediction to the bank. In 30 years, virtually every general will be a woman, homo, or transgender
Good for her. But she’s got no idea of what it means to be a ground pounder.
“Political correctness creates many oddities. This too shall pass.”
Sadly only after heavy consequences are paid.
Reality has a way of getting its revenge.
This woman is going to rely on her male Brigade commanders.
She’s going to depend on her male Brigade commanders.
I’m a woman and I’m against women being on the front lines. I believe women can lead men (Joan of Arc, for example). I believe that a very few women can equal the average man on the battlefield in terms of strength and endurance and courage. But, even so, I believe that women on the battlefield endanger men because men will respond differently to an injured or captured woman and might make decisions that would put the group at risk.
