California Gov. Gavin Newsom overruled a parole board’s decision to free Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten on Monday, marking the third time a governor has stopped the release of the youngest member of Manson’s murderous cult.
Van Houten, 69, is still a threat, Newsom said, though she has spent nearly half a century behind bars and received reports of good behavior and testimonials about her rehabilitation.
“While I commend Ms. Van Houten for her efforts at rehabilitation and acknowledge her youth at the time of the crimes, I am concerned about her role in these killings and her potential for future violence,” he wrote in his decision. “Ms. Van Houten was an eager participant in the killing of the LaBiancas and played a significant role.”

let me phrase it better then you did. she murdered people with political clout in California so we will actualy punish you properly....if the murder had been of some one from the middle or lower class she would of gotten out 20 years ago. the criminal justice system is broken….and no I don’t think she should get out She should die in prison. anyone who kills some one where it is not the person defending themselves or another person should not live in society.

You don’t have rephrase anything. Van Houten was a member of the Charles Manson Family. Charles Manson was an EVIL EVIL man. He and his Family killed for the pleasure of doing the killing. Lookup how the victims where slaughtered.
Van Houten deserves every moment in prison and more!
I’m so glad to hear Newsom has our best interests in mind. I really hope he runs for higher office. He is not like the others it seems.

While I understand where you are trying to go there, I think you’re way off base.
They were trying to start a race war. They killed number of innocent people who were well connected. They killed a woman carrying a baby, and cut the baby out of her.
These were not simple drive by shootings. There was a fair amount of planning. There was a very devious attempt to start a race war. The acts were very very vile.
Blood was used to write things on the walls.
There as the Tate killings, and also the La Bianca killings, two separate events, all innocent people.
It was a very twisted and sordid affair.
