Justice Dept. Keeps Wiretaps Secret in Flynn Case, Rejecting Judge’s Order
The New York Times ^ | 31 May 2019 | Adam Goldman

Federal prosecutors rebuffed a judge’s order to release by Friday highly classified transcripts of discussions that Michael T. Flynn, the president’s former national security adviser, had with the Russian ambassador during the presidential transition.

The transcripts between Mr. Flynn and Sergey I. Kislyak, formerly Russia’s top diplomat in the United States, were expected to show that they talked in December 2016 about sanctions that the Obama administration had just imposed on Russia. Mr. Flynn initially denied those exchanges about sanctions both to Trump administration officials and the F.B.I. in the weeks after the discussions.

The conversations prompted concerns among senior Obama administration officials about whether the Trump transition team was flouting norms about holding off on making policy until after taking office. The phone calls were also at the center of the scandal that eventually prompted Mr. Flynn’s ouster just weeks into President Trump’s term.

The order this month from the judge, Emmet G. Sullivan of the Federal District Court in the District of Columbia, was unusual. The transcripts came from a secret F.B.I. wiretap of Mr. Kislyak, and their release would have provided an extraordinarily rare look at the fruits of the government’s eavesdropping. Agents routinely listen to wiretaps of foreign officials, but they remain among the government’s most closely held secrets.

They weren’t listening in on Flynn. They were listening in on Kislyak — which is routine for the CIA.

The conversation was between Flynn and Kislyak and the FBI is too cute by half in this case. They were listening to *all* of Flynn's conversations, no mater who he was talking to.

Re: Flynn’s legal team

I have read in several places that Flynn’s son worked in private practice with his Dad and lobbied for Turkey and other countries.

Apparently, the FBI leaned all over Flynn with threatened charges against his son in order to extract maximum cooperation from Flynn Sr.

No one seems to mention that Flynn is under a “Gag” order, and cannot speak until after he is sentenced. They don’t want him talking, thus the delay in sentencing.

If you think that Papadopolous has a lot to say, just wait until Flynn is allowed to speak. Trump should pardon Flynn TODAY!

I think they may be protecting the ways and means of gathering this paricular information and don’t want to lose it in the future.

Well, of course. Because the FBI's "ways and means" have been to pervert the original intent of the FISA court, which was dangerous to begin with. Once they got away with doing it, it became easier to subvert the law the next time.

As the FBI has likely been subverting the FISA law since at least 2012, it now seems all quite normal for them to spy on any U.S. citizen they see as their "enemy". In fact, they now get quite pissy if you challenge them on what they've been doing and start bleating about protecting their "methods". Their "methods" being illegal.

Sure.. that’s what they were doing. Yeah, that’s the ticket. They weren’t spying on the Trump transition team at all.. And hadn’t been spying in his campaign for a year already.

Interesting take in the reason they want to keep it hidden.

It’s not legitimate to argue protecting sources and methods if they were used in the coup attempt.

Hell, Obama went to Iraq a month before the election, told them he intended to win, and that they shouldn’t sign a status of forces agreement with the Bush administration!

The original intent of FISA was to closely monitor the FBI after their cointelpro abuses, and their decades long record of illegal warrantless wiretaps.

FISA was meant to control them. Instead it gave them a secret playground and let them hide better. The FBI and the un-American FISA secret court must be disbanded.

It’s not legitimate to argue protecting sources and methods if they were used in the coup attempt.

That's true in general, but does not necessarily apply to THIS particular case.

The only thing that matters here is whether the information the DOJ is trying to protect is relevant to Flynn's sentencing.

Unfortunately (for Flynn), it isn't even relevant to determining whether Flynn is guilty or not -- since he has already pleaded guilty.

We are slaves. We all live on the Reservation USA. .Gov is our masters now.

FISA is corrupt and has been for decades; nobody leading a charge to fix it. Intel community has gotten thousands of our men and women killed. Growth of .gov continues. Lobbyist have more influence and power than the common man. The national debt continues to rise. Illegal aliens continue to invade, despite threats and national emergencies. It's all theater.

Yeah, Schumer’s comment came out of nowhere, long before there was any public suspicion. That POS was in on the coup from the start.
