WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Americans today are more closely divided than they were earlier in the last century when asked whether some form of socialism would be a good or bad thing for the country. While 51% of U.S. adults say socialism would be a bad thing for the country, 43% believe it would be a good thing. Those results contrast with a 1942 Roper/Fortune survey that found 40% describing socialism as a bad thing, 25% a good thing and 34% not having an opinion.

There are no accurate polls anymore because people refuse to be polled.
The numbers roughly align to the number of Americans who do not pay any federal income tax. You can argue that they are already benefiting from socialism.
Funny how that works out.
There is another poll that says young Americans think socialism means being in social media like Facebook or Instagram.
Thank you public school system, K through 12 and especially post high school.
That is an indicator of how large our lazy welfare class has grwon
I’m surprised it’s only 4 of 10. An awful lot of Freepers support some form of socialism, too — and you don’t get much more conservative than this group!
Ask them how many embrace some form of capitalism or personal liberty.
Thank ‘you’ Bill Ayers. Millitant Communist and educrat.
All those who think socialism is good should be given a one way ticket to N Korea, then revoke their US passport and citizenship.

BINGO!!!
Our side hangs up; our side doesn’t cover our cars with what we push on others...same principle...those who answer the polls want to be heard.
Part of the 6 of 10......

The 34% who have no opinion should remember Venezuela where people are now starving and fighting over necessities. Or Stalin’s USSR where he deliberately diverted all food away from his opponents’ area so millions starved to death.
Or Mao’s China where his enemies were slaughtered as an example to others.
Have awareness of the political issues or become a future slave or a victim of the ones who do.
We are fighting for the life of our representative republic. It will survive or die.
Wouldn’t social security, medicare, medicaid, food stamps, section 8 housing qualify for “a form of socialism”?

Simple solution to this. Identify the 40% in the poll. Have them identify 2 of their friends or family members that also embrace socialism. Them impose on them, all the socialist policies that they think they love, first 3:
Tax the bejesus out of their paychecks to pay for all the free stuff. Put them in government housing(Section 8). Make them rely on Medicare/Medicaid for all their medical care.
And then, after a month of that, start rationing all their essentials....food, water, fuel, etc.
Oh yeah...make sure you establish what is acceptable speech and monitor what they say. If they talk negatively against the system, put them in a cell for a while.

How did the pollsters define socialism?
I support safety nets, I think it encourages entrepreneurship. But many on this site would say that Bankruptcy laws, unemployment, Medicaid, Social Security, and food stamps are all forms of socialism.
I dissagree. Socialism is when the government controls the means of production. It is not tax and aid programs.
Try suggesting any reform to the Social Security or Medicare systems on this site and wait for the blistering responses from so-called conservatives.
