Full title "Gibsons Bakery v. Oberlin College Trial Day 7 Damages Expert says Show Gibsons The Money!"
oday was Day 7 of witness testimony in Gibson Bros. v. Oberlin College. The events giving rise to the lawsuit have been said to represent the worst of identity politics. You can read about some of the background on this case here.
The court addressed damage issues from a legal perspective earlier in the case, as described in our post Gibsons Bakery v. Oberlin College trial motions Whats a reputation worth, and how do you prove it?
In a half day of testimony that was full of numbers, the jury deciding whether Oberlin College defamed and libeled a small business heard that the bakery/market had already lost and will lose about $5.8 million from the schools alleged racist accusations. That number was arrived at by an independent accountant who based that figure on losses over a 30 year period.
When you look at how the revenues have declined, it is clear that those numbers represent that something major happened, said Frank Monaco, a certified public accountant who is managing partner for a 60-member accounting and financial consulting firm based in Canton, Ohio. Monaco has been a CPA for almost 40 years.
He said he based his 30-year estimates on the fact that Gibsons Bakery & Market, has been around for more than 130 years and that when you have people thinking youre racist, and you live in a small town, the accusation can last a lifetime. He said 30 years was a generational estimate, being that Gibsons family has been in the business for five generations.

[snip] Things got testy during cross-examination of Monaco by Oberlin Colleges attorney Matthew Nakon. Do you hold that Oberlin College is responsible for every human being that doesnt shop there anymore, Nakon asked. Monaco paused, and Nakon asked him, Do you understand my question?
Yes, do you understand my report? Monaco answered.
Oberlin Ohio - The trial of Gibson’s Bakery
The word racist is just a word. A human being has an inalienable right to their feelings and emotions. Please do not let being called a racist upset you. Feel the way you want to feel. I can not imagine a world allowing social engineers to take away an inalienable right.
Oberlin College is so far Left I’m not sure Hubble can see it. It’s time for colleges to assume responsibility for the Snowflakes it’s producing and for the Snowflakes to assume responsibility for their own actions.
What exactly caused all this? I understand there were allegations of racism by some students, but the article was not clear.
If the Left really meant their campaign against ‘Racism’, they would recall Gov. Ralph Northam, VA.
the term is actually a weapon, to be used to control thought and deed.
Some students, three I think, went into the bakery and stole a few items. They admitted it, but their college friends decided that the bakery was racist for having them charged and the college agreed. The Oberlin administration then branded the bakery ‘racist’.
Although I’m not sure I assume that this bakery refused to bake a cake for some kind of pervert function. You know....a little plastic thing atop a “wedding” cake showing two guys, both in tuxedos, fornicating at some “church” altar.
Nor should they!
Oberlin said the Bakery was only worth $35,000. WTH?
I would buy any Bakery for $35,000 in a heartbeat!
Good Music College that costs $50K+/year. Hopefully the media coverage will cause some financial pain to this liberal hotbed.
[THE CAUSE] November 2016....regime change
[BAD ACT] A temper tantrum at Oberlin by students and college admin.
[PENALTY PHASE] Trial to determine right & wrong $$$
The administration of Oberlin should be bitch-slapped with treble damages.
Some black kids shoplifted a couple of bottle of wine, got caught and screamed racism to deflect.
It's really more of a licensed bakery/convenience store, and one of the three black students tried to shoplift a bottle of wine, with a Gibson family member suffering some minor bruising, while trying to stop the thief and his friends.
It was about the eve of the election, and the election results apparently had the "college" lashing out, and the school picked the wrong lashee, using "racism" as an excuse, while defending its "own" thief and accomplices.
Oberlin College was the first college to accept female students...
Thanks. I hope the school has to cough up major bucks.
It’s a human right to like or dislike anybody for any reason including race, color, creed, national origin, sex, sexual proclivities, appearance, intelligence level, education, profession, etc, etc. just as long as you keep your hands off.

LI has been on this since it happened 2 years ago
Has been quite fascinating to follow it all
Oberlin administrators not only condoned the students protests over FALSE charges of racism by the bakery, but actively involved themselves in them
Liberal ‘elites’ are thugs...
