On Saturday, Apple CEO Tim Cook, who was recently acclaimed as an even better leader than the legendary Steve Jobs, carved out a morning from his very busy schedule to deliver a commencement speech for the 2019 graduates of Tulane University in New Orleans.

But as soon as Cook stepped up to the podium on Saturday, his message to Tulanes graduates became the very opposite of what was expected of himinstead of presenting himself as a role model for the young graduates in the audience, Cook encouraged them to challenge older generations successes and to find their own.
In some important ways, my generation has failed you, Cook said. We spent too much time debating, too focused on the fight and not enough on progress.
You dont need to look far to find an example of that failure, he continued, pointing to an example that no one understands better than those living in the natural disaster-dogged New Orleans: climate change.
This problem doesnt get easier based on who wins an election. Its about who has one lifes lottery and has the luxury of ignoring this issue, and who stands to lose everything. The costal communities, including some right here in Louisiana, that are already making plans to leave behind the places theyve called home for generations and head for higher ground
When we talk about climate change, I challenge you to look for those who have the most to lose and find the real, true empathy that comes from something shared. When you do that, the political noise dies down and you can feel your feet planted on solid ground.

Agree. Steve Jobs famously proclaimed look forward, and not back. His focus was on a point in the future which he wanted to get to. He didn't care about past failures or successes, it was about what could be in the future. Cook is looking back and lost focus on the future.
Corny joke: Why did Jobs wear a turtleneck? Because he hated buttons.

Monsieur le Cook, may a thousand cow farts follow you wherever you go!

Thanks conservative98. Apropos of nothing, at the moment, AAPL stock is down $6.66.
Speak for yourself you perv.
The notion of an entire generation failing the next generation is such pablum. I, and most other baby boomers, worked our tails off to build companies delivering superior products and services and creating entirely new business models. The selection of products and services available today at low prices is an order of magnitude higher than it ever was. Society has its problems (crime, out of control ghetto culture, the dumbing down of education, declining church attendance), but every problem was caused by extreme liberal policies.
Cook is spouting pure horseshit.
No, it should read, “My socialist comrades pulled the wool over the eyes of the naive, weed smoking, airhead, lazy, pants pooping, feel good, libtard, want it all now, STD spreading, climate change believer, sexually confused, half brow snowflakes.”
Um, Tim, you need to be concentrating on Apple. Stay in your lane, bud.
OMG,these people just need to STFU.
Wow. Just what graduating students want to hear is some dispiriting commencement speech.
This contrasts sharply with Steve Jobs 2005 commencement speech at Stanford. That speech was uplifting, inspiring, and different (as one would expect from Jobs).

No one uses a princess phone anymore
No one uses their kid as the remote control
Everyone has a TV in their room
Communications has become decentralized and ubiquitous with the adoption of the cell phone
Heck, with that phone you can anyone, antime.
You can video call and conference
You can send emails and text, instantly
There is no longer a need for a steno pool or Secretary to do all the typing
You can download porn anytime
How have things not improved in the 50 years?
There no black and white TV’s being manufactured anymore
CGI is so good these days, it used by everyone from the big names like 20th Century or Paramount to little independent producers of entertainment
Hell, my phone can pretty much tell me “Go to Hell” and not only give me directions on how to get there but, will act as my copilot and tell me what time I will arrive for my eternal roast.
What hasn’t been improved?
Airlines have improved so we can reach any spot on the planet in under a day
What isn’t better?
Who would have thought Tim Cook's gen couldn't control the weather?
“On Saturday, Apple CEO Tim Cook, who was recently acclaimed as an even better leader than the legendary Steve Jobs,”
He defrauded his friends and family more than Steve did?
Apple's last big things were the iPhone and iPad, which Jobs pioneered. Jobs was a minimalist. Cook is a supply chain guy, and also big into gay aesthetics. When Jobs was alive, Apple had the reputation of being the creative person's tool, and even though there were some misfires (the puck mouse and the Apple Cube) the design was always well thought out. Now, Apple is more high tech jewelry, and a lot of the design is awkward.
He’s not the visionary or obsessive Steve Jobs was and it shows in what Apple’s producing.
While I believe he is right about his generation, what he fails to mention is that Mr. Cook is one of the LEADERS of his generation and has a massive role in that failure.
Self absorbed, entitled and never wrong.
I think Cook’s remarks are incoherent.
Then again why would I want a computer company CEO to lecture about life?
Awww the whole fruity bowl of them just plain sux.
Good Lord, who did the editing?
It's won life's lottery . . . coastal communities.
Cook might have a point. Judging from the writing above, I worry about the next generation.
