House Judiciary Committee schedules vote to hold AG Barr in contempt
The Washington Times ^ | May 6, 2019 | Jeff Mordock

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler has scheduled a vote Wednesday to hold Attorney General William P. Barr in contempt of Congress after he refused to provide an unredacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report to Congress.

Mr. Nadler and Mr. Barr have been sparring over what the Justice Department will provide to Congress beyond the redacted report that was publicly released last month.

Mr. Barr missed a May 1 deadline for turning over the full report and all supporting evidence, and Mr. Nadler softened his demand to a less-redacted report and some of the supporting evidence Mr. Mueller amassed. That new deadline was Monday morning.

Should the committee approve the contempt citation it would then go to the full House floor for a vote.

“The attorney general’s failure to comply with our subpoena, after extensive accommodation efforts, leaves us no choice but to initiate contempt proceedings in order to enforce the subpoena and access the full, unredacted report,” Mr. Nadler said in a statement, adding he would postpone the hearing if the Department reverse course.

Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia, the top Republican on the committee, blasted Mr. Nadler, saying the subpoena requires the attorney general to release confidential grand jury information, which would violate federal law.

“They know the Justice Department is working to negotiate even as they pursue contempt charges making their move today illogical and disingenuous,” he said.

The markup, scheduled for 10 a.m., is the escalation of an ongoing battle between the Justice Department and the Judiciary Committee as tensions rise over Mr. Barr’s handling of the Mueller probe.

Mr. Barr last week skipped a scheduled appearance before the committee after Democrats demanded an extra session for staff attorneys to question the attorney general. The Justice Department called the move “unprecedented” and “Inappropriate.”

Seems like it would be a crime for Nadler to solicit the AG to commit a crime..??..

I could have nothing but contempt for a committee that makes rulings like this.

The Democrats are cornered now. They have to blunt the upcoming reports by framing Barr as a corrupt AG. It’s Watergate again as far as the RATS are concerned!

Well, first there would need to be an investigation (gathering of evidence) performed by...
...the DOJ.

The report is there, in a room for Nadler to read

Nadler’s problem is that he lacks the reading comprehension skill necessary to understand what is written.

So Nadler will be holding Barr in contempt for NOT breaking the law at Nadler’s “order”.

Nadler wants Barr held in contempt for not being able to see pieces of the report that is readily available to Nadler, yet Nadler refuses to review those pieces.

Nadler wants Grand Jury data he is not entitled to see and is demanding that Barr break the law to reveal that data to Nadler.

So, is Nadler suborning Barr to break the law, and isn’t THAT the real crime here?

The Republicans on the committee (I'm lookin's at YOU Collins) need to make the point that the Chairman is oblivious to the facts and is forcing the AG to break the law.

I agree, Nadless wants the unredacted report that contains Grand Jury testimony and that’s against fed law.

“”contempt proceedings””

“”Give him the same punishment that AG Holder received.””

Exactly - maybe Holder can appear as his attorney and tell him how it is done. I hope every Republican will make known this fact publicly..people have forgotten what Holder got away with.

...the Chairman is oblivious to the facts and is forcing the AG to break the law.

The Chairman is not oblivious to the facts and is attempting to induce the AG to break the law. Then they can impeach him for breaking the law.

And anyone who can’t see that the reason he wants it is to be able to warn off those who are still under investigation aren’t paying attention. He already has access to everything else.

Grandstanding to keep the dem leadership from taking away his chairmanship.

Not that anyone cares (I certainly don’t), but how can Barr be in held in contempt if he was never subpoenaed?

That one baffles me.

Exactly. The Dems are tainting Barr, then whatever he finds in the way of corruption will be labeled "partisan" or "suspect".

:::::The Chairman is not oblivious to the facts.....:::::

So the chairman is aware he can go into the SCIF and read the redactions? I am confused by giving credit to Nadler that he knows much of anything. But, confusion for me is normal....

AG Barr was subpoenaed to turn over the unredacted report by this morning.
