"Ehrlich also was able to reach millions on several television appearances, such as the NBC Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in February of 1970 and numerous times afterward.[9] In response to Vogts and Ehrlichs ideas, the first Director-General of UNESCO, Julian Huxley, in his Evolutionary Humanism, called for a radical government-enforced world population control policy.[10] Huxley and Ehrlich openly criticized both the communist and the Roman Catholic positions on birth control, and especially on abortion, as well as on their skepticism for a need for strict governmental enforced population control to avoid disaster."
You’re really fixated on this stuff, aintcha?
The man has never been right about ANYTHING over his entire life. Yet universities continue to offer him honoraria and speaking fees.
Overpopulation is still a problem, it is just food technology has been able to keep up (for the most part).
Applying observations in Nature to humans is a normal part of biological science. It is how we get things like life-saving drugs.
Unless and until he/she can specifically make a link beside the OP of the author of said book that the hypothesis was inspired by “Darwinism” (which of course does not exist but we will substitute “TToE” out of kindness) then whoever coined the headline was a liar.
And you really need to stop citations from the scientific equivalent of “The Onion.”
It is most unbecoming.
Convinced the Western world to kill itself
America was the first country to escape the Malthusian trap, around 1820, thanks to capitalism and limited government England was a close second.
Tish tosh and pish posh!
Everyone knows the Population Bomb exploded and we all died.
We’re just ghosts in the machine now.
Of note, in that book Ehrlich predicted the poor brown and black people of the south would invade the rich, white north.
He was 100% correct on that aspect.
Not sure about the rest of the world, but the President has proclaimed the US to be full.
When the Population Bomb was starting to fizzle they switched to climate change. Fear is all they have.
In 1979 I drove from Long Island to Tulsa Oklahoma. Before I was half done with that trip I knew the population bomb thing was utter crap.
More inspired by Malthus than Darwin.
And by the way, if Darwin had died before ‘On the Origin of Species’ had gone to press, Lord Alfred Russel Wallace would have published essentially the exact same theory based on independent research conducted in a different part of the world from his study of different life forms.
