Bible in a Year: 2 Samuel 1618; Luke 17:2037
On those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. Isaiah 9:2
On the streets of Los Angeles, a homeless man struggling with addictions stepped into The Midnight Mission and asked for help. Thus began Brians long road to recovery.
In the process Brian rediscovered his love for music. Eventually he joined Street Symphonya group of music professionals with a heart for the homeless. They asked Brian to perform a solo from Handels Messiah known as The People That Walked in Darkness. In words written by the prophet Isaiah during a dark period of Israels history, he sang, The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined (Isaiah 9:2 kjv). A music critic for The New Yorker magazine wrote that Brian made the text sound as though it had been taken from his own life.
The gospel writer Matthew quoted that same passage. Called by Jesus from a life of cheating his fellow Israelites, Matthew describes how Jesus fulfilled Isaiahs prophecy by taking His salvation beyond the Jordan to Galilee of the Gentiles (Matthew 4:1315).
Who would have believed one of Caesars tax collector thugs (see Matthew 9:9), a street addict like Brian, or people like us would get a chance to show the difference between light and darkness in our own lives?
How has the light of Christ affected you? In what ways are you reflecting it to others?
Part of the Big Island is the southernmost point of the United States. There is a bar nearby (or used to be in 1996).
Greetings to all at the Canteen!
To all our military men and women, past and present,
THANK YOU
for your service!
How's everyone doing this morning?
Howdy, radu! It’s kind of late, but just wanted to say hi before it got later and I had to head out.
Hope you had a nice warm day and evening! Did you tackle the Avon? *coff-coff*
Howdy, LUV!
I DID tackle Avon in that closet and regret it at the moment. OMG, that stuff is RANK!! I held my own pretty well until I got to a box full of scented candles. They’re in a bag on the carport now but they did me in for the night.
It wouldn’t be so bad if I could grab the boxes and haul them out as is but I have to open EVERYTHING in her mess. I’ve found little bits of money tucked in the oddest places and don’t dare pass on anything. Haven’t found any cash in the Avon stuff yet but the first box I just toss will be the one she stuck something in. LOL
It was a gorgeous day here and fairly nice tonight. Tomorrow will be a repeat of today.
Do you think you’ll get any rain this week? I know y’all need it badly.
Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))
Does the nice, warm weather still have Gizmo fired up or is he toning it down a little? He’s kept you on your toes lately. :-)
Ugh! Just thinking about that stuff makes me want to sneeze! LOL! I hope you get rid of all of it before long! Then you’ll only have dust to contend with and after that stuff, dust will be nothing.
It is supposed to rain tomorrow and Wednesday, but the way things have been going, I’m not holding my breath. Right now the radar shows it about 30 miles north of us moving north. Typical. *sigh*
We did notice a trash bag full of things. There was a chicken piece that he found. He also did a little bit of walking around in the tree area.
We are going to have some plumbing guys come by later today to fix the toilet. Also we have some rain coming in.
