Reporters set Twitter abuzz when New York Times White House Correspondent Maggie Haberman noted that the White House was playing the song “Edelweiss,” suggesting there was significance to the song that the White House did not understand.

Users quickly commented that Haberman seemed to think Trump was playing a Nazi song in the White House. The song is from Richard Rodgers’ and Oscar Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music” and is played by Captain von Trapp right before the family flees the Nazi occupation of Austria. The fact that the WH phayed a song from an anti-Nazi musical makes Trump a Nazi.

Let us face it.
Journalism is not the profession for people with intelligence and education.
It is the purview of ignorant, stupid drama queens.
Trump is so far out in front of these people, he’s crossed the finish line twice and is ahead of them on his third lap.

It’s also plays at the opening of the (Amazon?) ‘Man in the High Castle’ series.
In context the song represents a citizen saying farewell to his country. He does not wish to leave but he is left with no choice.

In the Reagan years, during a state dinner for the chancellor/president/prime minister of Austria, the band struck up “Edelweiss.” All the Americans sprung up, thinking it was the national anthem. The Austrians remained seated, thinking “WTF?”
They probably think “Moby Dick” is a social disease.
It seems to me that the Trump White House brilliantly conveyed their own impending escape from the Demo-Nazis textualzed in the mueller report and hyperbolic hectoring on the matter.
You had the same take on this as I had. At least the dumb bi+ch didn’t accuse the White House of playing Phillip K. Dick songs.
The significance of that song is that it inspired Austrian NATIONALISM (ie “bless my homeland forever, in OPPOSITION TO NAZISM, and it’s clear in the musical that the Nazis seated in the front row, who just went around removing all the Austrian flags, uncomfortably tolerate the singing of that song by as the Austrian audience sings it along with Captain Von Trapp.
So in sum, the song shows how Nationalism is the antidote for Nazism.
