Poll: Roy Moore Leads GOP Field for Alabama Senate
The Hill ^

Posted on 04/16/2019 8:11:21 AM PDT by TroutGuy

Former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore leads the field of potential Republicans vying for the chance to challenge Sen. Doug Jones (D), a year and a half after Moore lost what was supposed to be an easy election in a deep-red state.

A new poll shows Moore leading a still-evolving field of Alabama Republicans competing for the nomination. He is the top choice of 27 percent of Alabama Republican voters, according to the Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy Inc. survey.

The state’s three Republican members of Congress finish well behind Moore: Rep. Mo Brooks would take 18 percent, Rep. Bradley Byrne clocks in at 13 percent and Rep. Gary Palmer would take 11 percent.

Bush Rove nothing. Moore would quite probably be a great Senator. But he is a poison pill. The morons who either voted dhimmicrat or stayed home was because of Moore’s awful press. If someone can reconvince the electorate against the bad press, then great, run him. But I don’t see that happening.

Unfortunately, it seems none of the GOP alternatives to Moore are much better.

I think they're all far better than Moore, but none are yet very well known statewide, thus the fairly similar support for the three members of the US House.

This is the 2020 Senate election in AL. Both would be on the ballot.

Tuberville has already announced; can’t get a Power 5 head coaching job any more, so why not run for Senate.

Oh, for the days of smoke-filled rooms when the party bosses would bring everyone in and tell clods like Tommy T and Roy Moore, “you’re not running; now, go home, shut up and get behind the person we nominate.”

This nomination should be Mo Brooks’s by acclamation. Why the party can’t get behind him is a complete mystery to me.

Thanks for another bad memory. Mitch force-fed Luther Strange on everyone (including Trump) the last time around, creating the backlash that helped Moore win the nomination. I can only guess what McConnell has up his sleeve this time around.

Has Matt Gaetz announced yet? There was a report the Florida Congressman plans to move to Alabama and run for Senate, since his new home state has only a one-day residency requirement for candidates.

Can’t get too many bozos in this clown car....

How many times does he have to lose before he realizes it is over and time to retire with his very young wife?

The morons who either voted dhimmicrat or stayed home was because of Moore’s awful press.

Not awful press, but the fact that Moore was twice elected as CJ of the State Supreme Court, and twice got himself removed from the court by pulling defiant stunts most clear headed folks knew he could not win. Elected twice, removed twice. Not exactly serving the people who elected him.

Moore is a flake, and many in the state believe with much justification that he'd take his stunts and grandstanding to the US senate, something many Republican voters do not want, and will not vote for.

Mo doesn’t have the name recognition but I think he could win if McConnell doesn’t throw his support into a campaign to trash him like last time.

No carpet baggers in Alabama. Just pure bloods. I hear Coach Tuberville is coming back to run. He has real residency issues. Moore got slandered and robbed and the people now know it. The allegations are all dispelled and he has been vindicated and counter sued for huge damages against the woman that slandered him. It was all a lie. McConnell paid blacks to vote for a democrat like he did in Mississippi. It has been exposed and people deeply resent it in Alabama. Go ROY!!

Alabama Republicans are stupid if they let this charlatan to win the Alabama GOP Senate nomination.

Jones will win again anyway, the black voters in Alabama will turn out to vote out Trump anyway and they will reelect Jones, meaning Jones will be there until 2026.

We just need a younger strong conservative on the ballot and to have President Trump make a few campaign stops on his/her behalf.

You were only hammered because you were wrong. You drank the media kool aid. Congratulations!

Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

I don’t believe Alabama Republicans are that insane.

“Mid to South Alabama where his support comes from are a bunch of idiots.”

Well, at least you don’t generalize too much. What are we, a bunch of deplorables in your opinion?

“Here we go again ...”

Yes, and just scanning the posts that follow, it seems that people on this site stand shoulder to shoulder with RINOs, the never-Trumpers, the democrats, and the MSM in trying to shaft Moore.

Evidently, when you are whupped by the MSM, you stay whupped.

Two have declared and some 16 are listed potential candidates
that include Roy Moore and his wife Kayla. They want all run
but still that is a lot that may be talked about for a while.

Hell, I’m a carpet bagger from NY, living in Georgia for the last 23.5 years and I know who Mo Brooks is.

I’m not saying Tubberville is the answer but, it for darned sure isn’t Roy Moore.

BTW, what happened to those women that were going to pursue Moore to the ends of the earth regardless of how the election turned out?
