A Notre Dame cathedral priest has claimed that all precious artefacts and artwork have been saved from the historic building.
In a tweet, French journalist Nicolas Delesalle cited Père Frédéric, writing: "Good news: all the works of art were saved. The treasure of the Cathedral is intact, the Crown of thorns, the Holy sacraments."
The fire, which has destroyed destroyed large sections of the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, has spread to one of the cathedral's landmark rectangular towers, according to Bloomberg.
The historic building's spire and roof have already collapsed. No casualties have been reported as of yet.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, however, officials have indicated it could be linked to current renovation work.
The French President, Emmanuel Macron, has cancelled a planned public address and has arrived at the scene.
Large plumes of smoke are still billowing from the Gothic building, despite firefighters' best efforts to tackle the blaze over the past few hours.

“Its probably one of the most storied and documented buildings in the world. It can be re-created; but it will be tooled with modern implements, and without the same heart and soul that generations put into building the original. The soul will be nothing like the original - unless, over time, it is imbued with the spirit of a great regeneration of faith, in France as well as the wider world”.
Hear, hear!!
What?
That has to be the post of the day!
><
A bunch of gibberish I say.
What about the stained glass?
I do hope this is the case. I toured this Great Cathedral after taking a ferry down the Seine to reach the isle. A very special treasure of Western Christian civilization. Let us hope the treasures were saved and the cathedral can be rebuilt in a manner that honors the original.
Well said.
A blessing...
If the report was accurate saying that the relics and art were saved, I'd guess they'd been removed some time ago because because of the fundamental renovation that was already underway.
I hope he knows whereof he speaks.
Fire prevention in an 800 year old building should be managed and organized like safety at a nuclear power plant or petrochemical plant. I somehow doubt that it was even close.
They probably also had some time (1-2 hours?) from when fire broke out and was detected, to the time they absolutely had to leave the building.
A Muslim who tried to burn it down in 2016 coincidentally was sentenced to 8 years in prison today.
And the church staff are now saying the fire was intentional
Not sure why anyone would watch Feux News during the slimey Shep.
I intentionally watch conservative feeds during breaking news if he is the only source on Fox. Conservatives need to initially not watch him due to feeding his numbers through cable.
Breaking is interesting and others feel the need to watch. As conservatives, our news feeds should be others than Shep Smith he is disgusting.
It is a breathtaking experience to stand in the Sainte-Chapelle
Upstairs is one of the most beautiful man made places on earth - it is glorious.
Where are you seeing this and why have the staffers concluded it was intentional?
Even the stained glass windows?
The rose window alone - words fail me.
When I saw the first snippet of news on tv, the first thing I said - out loud to myself was - “I never saw it.”
Re: First of all, The Who’s were singing the praise of Fahoo Fores Dahoo Dores, whatever god that is.
Fahoo fores, dahoo dories are simply nonsense rhyming words that Dr Seuss was famous for. It was not the name of some made up god. Seuss included the name Christmas in the song.
The point of the story was that even though the Grinch thought he could stop Christmas by taking all their presents, decorations, and food, he discovered that Christmas did not come from a store - it came just the same.
Im not saying Dr Seuss was a Christian, but the story is definitely not pushing a worship of another god. If that were the case, that special would never have aired in 1965 - it would have been banned. Dont be such a grinch.
Thank you, God.
Good. Hopefully they can rebuild it much better with sprinkler systems and all that.
