PARIS, April 15 (Reuters) - Notre-Dame Cathedral went up in flames on Monday in a roaring blaze that devasted the Parisian landmark, one of France's most visited places.

Flames burst through the roof of the centuries-old cathedral and quickly engulfed the spire, which collapsed.
A huge plume of smoke wafted across the city and ash fell over a large area.
Firefighters cleared the area around the cathedral, which marks the very center of Paris.
President Emmanuel Macron canceled an address to the nation that he had been due to give later on Monday evening. A presidential official said Macron was to go to the scene of the blaze.
"A terrible fire is under way at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris," Mayor Anne Hidalgo said on Twitter.
France 2 television reported that police were treating the incident as an accident.

Yeah, I could see UNESCO insisting that it be reopened as a museum instead of a church.

It could have been atheists, communists, Satanists, Muslims, whatever. During Holyweek, day after Palm Sunday? A Cathedral, hundreds of years old that’s always under renovation? I just don’t think it was an accident.

from your link:
In addition to being the seat of Paris’ archbishop, Notre Dame has special significance to the Islamic terrorists owing to its historical value. In 1185, Patriarch Heraclius of Caesarea called for the Third Crusade from Notre Dame, which at the time was incomplete. Despite numerous battles from the Christian armies, the Crusades’ ultimate goal, which was to recapture Jerusalem, failed.

St. Michael the Archangel
~ PRAYER ~
St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
Cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen

NBC News reporting there were two fires: “Michel Picaud, from the Friends of Notre Dame organization responsible for the renovation efforts at the cathedral, told NBC News that, to his knowledge, the church’s organ and stained glass windows were not damaged. ‘The entire roof is fully destroyed,’ Picaud said. ‘The fire started up near the roof top while another fire started in the north bell tower.’”

Folks around her spout fake news all of the time. Yet, you cannot tell when you are getting worked up like silly chickens scared of the rain.
If carrying a gun makes you feel safe in church, have at it. Nothing today made church any more dangerous this week than it was last week.

Perhaps you should clarify your statement?
I'll ben happy to.
Back when these cathedrals were built, the forest of Europe were full of "virgin cut" forests, meaning they were allowed to grow to their optimum growth and the foresters who supplied the timber for these magnificent structures could pick and choose the best of the best. This mean only the strongest, without blemish or defect were allowed to put into the Lord's Holiest temple. Nowadays, the forests that supplies the hoist, joists frames and rafters have been picked over many times from the centuries of ship building, building castles and mundane hovel's of the peasant folk..
That's was one of the many blessings America provided the Old World was the untouched forests of boundless trees of excellent timber.
Yes there are preserves of the rick and of the state but even these may be resentful of using their estates to build such a arachic structure as a church.
Not positive of the type these cathedrals were built of but wood like oak takes time to add length and strength to withstand the weight of ton's of lead, clay tiles and stone to withstand the stress of the ages.
Could there still be trees of the right type, age , girth and free of blemish(knots, rots etc.) I guess. I don't European forest management.
I hope it can be done but the cost would run into the billions of dollars. Money I 'm not sure the increasing secular and Idlasmiv population would be willing to bear the costs of construction.

Theres not the ARTISTS and workmen to replace it! Someone on the main thread posted info about French builing guilds that have all the knowledge and skills to replicate the original craftsmanship that went into building Notre Dame.
I think it will be rebuilt, but with a hybrid of new and old technologies.
For instance, I can see them replacing all of the internal structural components with high grade steel and fireproof composite materials, while employing guild artisans to replicate the more artistic outward elements.
A French billionaire has already pledged 100 million euros to the rebuilding effort. There will be more donations pouring in from around the world. It'll probably take twenty years to completely restore Notre Dame to its previous splendor, but it will be done.
Having visited that remarkable cathedral, I just hope I live long enough to see it completed.

This is one of the most magnificent churches in the world. I was so lucky that I actually got to see it, almost 20 years ago. I visited Notre Dame in 1989. To say that I was profoundly impressed, is putting it mildly. There's almost nothing in this country that compares to the beauty and grandeur of that grand medieval structure. Pictures do not do it justice.
