PARIS, April 15 (Reuters) - Notre-Dame Cathedral went up in flames on Monday in a roaring blaze that devasted the Parisian landmark, one of France's most visited places.

Flames burst through the roof of the centuries-old cathedral and quickly engulfed the spire, which collapsed.
A huge plume of smoke wafted across the city and ash fell over a large area.
Firefighters cleared the area around the cathedral, which marks the very center of Paris.
President Emmanuel Macron canceled an address to the nation that he had been due to give later on Monday evening. A presidential official said Macron was to go to the scene of the blaze.
"A terrible fire is under way at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris," Mayor Anne Hidalgo said on Twitter.
France 2 television reported that police were treating the incident as an accident.

“Possibly” due to renovation. Just as possible due to moozlum criminals. It is quite a coinkydink that there have been dozens of churches desecrated, burned, destroyed in the past months in France. It is also a coinkysink that there are moozlums all over the place...many in “no go” zones for the authorities. Goodbye France. You are naoive fools who have murdered your history and culture.
I too think it was intentionally lit, but you seem to have forgotten the purpose of a roof: it’s to keep everything underneath it DRY!
When fire starts in dry areas, it spreads through the dry areas, weakening the structure until collapse. This structure has been drying for 600 years.
So, even if there was a foot of snow on the roof, when a fire starts inside, it’s going to burn hot and fast unless extinguished.

Sadly, I agree. The skill, knowledge, care, and magnitude of effort required to create something so beautiful and incredible is almost hard to even fathom today.
I remember seeing Notre-Dame on a tour back while deployed in 87’. We road the train up to Paris from Cannes during a shore leave.
Damn shame.

Don’t worry, in a few years lots of people will “remember” seeing it.

Renovation work is constant on these cathedrals, it never stops. The media is trying to portray it as something unusual and therefore likely to have caused the fire. There’s almost zero chance that this was caused by the renovations. The fact that this is Holy Week plus the recent increase in church vandalism by Muslims means that arson has to be very seriously considered. It would be my first suspicion.
On the Christian faiths most Holy Week? Probably just a coincidence.
I certainly hope they’ve upped the security in Barcelona for La Sagrada Familia.

Well stated. I haven't watched any tv (couple sporting events) in 7 years.
Islamists, Globalists or Internationalists. Take your pick. They all want to burn down Western civilization for the same reason: enslavement of mankind.

I am so deeply sorry that this tragedy has happened.
I know that Notre Dame is such a marvelous symbol of Catholic faith, perseverance, and history. This is a horrible thing to happen, especially during Holy Week.
I was able to visit Notre Dame Cathedral 20 years ago. It was truly beautiful, and there were worshippers who packed the church that night for Mass, right beyond the rope line of tourists.
