Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot Announces He Won’t Prosecute ‘Low-Level’ Crimes

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Dallas County Criminal District Attorney John Creuzot, who campaigned on criminal justice reform, announced he no longer plans to prosecute certain low-level crimes.

His office is in the process of dropping many of those cases.

He’s already dismissed more than 1,000 drug possession cases during his first three months in office.

Shortly after being elected in November 2018, Creuzot said, “On my agenda is to not ask judges to send people to the penitentiary for technical violations of their probation – for instance not doing community service, not paying fines and fees.”

In a letter to the people of Dallas County , Creuzot said his office will no longer prosecute many first-time marijuana offenses or any drug possession cases involving less than .01 grams of a drug.

Former Dallas County Prosecutor, Judge Mike Snipes said, “I think it’s forward looking. I think it’s pioneering… People who have minor offenses have a better chance of rehabilitating their life and getting back on track.”

I'll leave it to a facebook comment:

I’d encourage individuals to routinely go to the DAs property, smoke some dabs, steal random lawn ornaments and camp out on his front lawn. Leave used meth pipes and syringes all over his property and continually steal his tires to pawn for food because it’s necessary to eat. This is an absolute embarrassment. Don’t California my Texas!

Arrest him. He’s liable for every single low level crime.

When you prosecute minor crimes, you discourage major crimes. When you permit minor crimes, you encourage major crimes.

Doesn’t matter what his opinion of the law is. Its his duty to prosecute. If he doesn’t like the law, vote to change it.

So... laws no longer apply when libs don’t want them too?

I crack me up, this is no surprise. It’s been going on for years.

Former Dallas County Prosecutor, Judge Mike Snipes SHOULD NAVE SAID, “I think it’s backward looking. I think it’s ridiculous… People who get away with minor offenses without punishment are not afraid of the law and have a better chance of moving onto more frequent and bigger crimes.”

Hypothetically, if someone walks up and slaps in the face, is that a low level crime?

A number of states now have legal marijuana for small amounts. I don’t notice major crimes taking a spike as a result.

Since he refuses to do his job he should be turned out. Because he’s not prosecuting crimes on the books then he’s an accessory after the fact and should be frog marched into jail where someone who will enforce the laws should prosecute him.

Then why even have them? Now no one will do it...............

From the letter:

Theft of Necessary Items Study after study shows that when we arrest, jail, and convict people for non-violent crimes committed out of necessity, we only prevent that person from gaining the stability necessary to lead a law-abiding life. Criminalizing poverty is counter-productive for our community’s health and safety. For that reason, this office will not prosecute theft of personal items less than $750 unless the evidence shows that the alleged theft was for economic gain.

It’s open season for criminals.

I wish karma on anyone that supports this. May you and your kids be the first victims.

This started years ago here in Los Angeles, the same way too. Now the LAPD will not even Respond to low level crimes, let alone arrest or cite anyone committing them. It is pretty much a free for all in Los Angeles for Drugs, Petty Crimes, Shoplifting, and Burglary unless it happens to someone famous.

He’s not doing any favors. .01 grams is 0.00035274 ounces.
That’s background noise and probably a misprint.
