The Never-Ending Threat of Civil War
American Thinker ^ | April 6, 2019 | E.M. Cadwaladr

Posted on 04/06/2019 3:18:34 PM PDT by ProtectOurFreedom

We and the Left are now two nations within one country. This is undeniable. We are now so different that we cannot even agree on what a country is, or on the merits of a country having a border. The number of people who still say, "I just don't care about politics" dwindles. It is still possible to hate both sides — but it is getting hard to be indifferent and still be breathing. How many people can just take or leave infanticide? How many people are entirely flexible about the idea of the government having authority over anything and everything, to experimenting with our fundamental demographics, or to giving up fossil fuels cold turkey? The abyss looms large beneath us.

We conservatives have let this ideological cancer metastasize for far too long for its excision to be simple or painless. For too long, we have been patient with outrages we should have fought to reverse. We have let our opponents secede incrementally from us for decades. We have been tolerant and patient...we have given up our civil society, our political representation, and our freedoms one by one. Our maladies won't be fixed by delicate adjustments now...Either the cancer wins, and kills us all, or we defeat it — and we accept the scars. Let us not pretend they would not be hideous scars. And let us not pretend it would not be a deeply barbarous and bitter surgery.

The titanic nations of the Left and right are rising en masse — flexing their muscles and snorting menacingly at one another. We cannot get out of their way. There is no safe part of the country, nor any genuinely safe haven left in any other country. This is a global conflict. We have run out of frontiers.

The author and all those people who believe there is some other answer to staying free from the totalitarian dictates of leftists are the fools.

Here are your two choices:

1) Watch as the left consolidates government power at all levels, then uses that government to rule in a totalitarian manner, slowly taking away one freedom after another and then live that way forever.

2) Recognize that leftists will never stop wanting and demanding to control others and understand that force is the only answer that will keep leftists at bay, then choose to execute that force against leftists and keep the freedoms you have.

Guess what folks? It took a war to earn your freedoms. Why should we not expect it will take a war to keep them?

Yeah that Thomas Paine was a smart guy as were many of our founders.

They were willing to risk it all to birth this nation.

Just imagine, 3% is all it takes and someone to lead.

In this country, there is/was an attempt to take over the country/culture/legal system, not the government per se.

They don’t control the government...yet.

Until they control the government (particularly the military), they are vulnerable.

We disagree. The ongoing slow coup continues. They do control the government.

BTW, I completely agree that it is never a good idea to underestimate an enemy.

That said, it is also a good idea to never entertain negative, defeatist language and ideas.

We will win this coming war because the human desire for freedom is greater than the human weakness which desires safety at the cost of freedom.

And in the case of communism, safety (and all the virtue signaling ideals like equality) is (are) a lie.

Slavery as an end product of communism, however, is quite real.

Socialism/communism is a con game. In fact, it is quite possibly the very best con game there is.

They do not control the parts of the government they will need to start killing U.S. citizens.

At least, not yet.

An ideology that in the last century has had governments kill nearly 200 million of their own people and countless others is a powerful one, a dangerous one...

When my brother told me he and his wife were going to vacation in Vermont (last year), I told him it was one of the most beautiful places on Earth...but it was also full of communists.

He said (stupidly) that communism is just another way of looking at things...a different opinion.

I told him what you said above (about its having killed millions of people).

We haven't really spoken since then.

He has a good brain but apparently doesn't like to use it (ergo, he is stupid by choice).

Three generations, roughly one lifetime.

A concept expounded on at length by William Strauss and Neil Howe.

"I firmly believe that we're past the point of a political solution.

Half the country doesn't even accept the results of the 2016 election, and wants to tear down every vestige of our history, our culture, our language, and our long established form of government. They don't recognize our laws, our customs, the Constitution, our Judeo-Christian values, objective reality, or even plain horse sense.

In short, they have become unmoored from our formerly shared American Ideals.

We are quite literally attempting to do business with people who don't subscribe to even the most fundamental western concepts that our form of self government relies upon to work.

Politics isn't possible with such people, therefore there will be war. It's only a matter of when."

___________

So well said.

The country has been so disfigured by the left's destructive influences on the schools at all levels, the media, and all propaganda/indoctrination tools ..... that it looks like physical war is ahead.

Heheh. You might think so.

He's retired. Owned a successful real estate firm.

For what it's worth, a lot of folks in business, medicine, law, etc., etc. etc. simple don't think beyond their work.

Bingo, read it online, I did years ago. I actually have the book in case it ever disappears online, but best book I’ve read in many years. Highly recommend it. It’s like 800 pages so prepare to settle in, it’s not an overnighter.

I don’t see civil war coming in this generation, but if it did, soon, Russia would not be on the sidelines. When the USSR devolved into just Russia we stood aside, they won’t.

A common enemy can bring two sides together. Unfortunately the left may side with Russia seeing us as the common enemy.

Half the country doesn’t even accept the results of the 2016 election

***************

And its not just the presidential elections. They don’t really accept any outcome that they do not win. What they cannot win at the ballot box, they still try to defeat through endless recounts, manipulation of the election process, complicity with the liberal courts, collusion with the mendacious media, and relentless pressure from their special interest groups.

In short , they will not accept the legitimate will of the people as expressed through our peaceful process of elections. There is simply no rapprochement with people who refuse to play by the rules. Its their way or the highway.

Giving in to them only encourages them to be more extreme in their resistance and subversion. Its time to put an end to it.

Very interesting point there.

During the Cold War, Democrats still believed in America and our ideals. Democrats and Republicans united (with some Democrat exceptions) to fight the common enemy.

How ironic that the communists captured the Democrat party and there is a real possibility that Democrats would ally with Russia in CW II against us.

Exactly right. It’s no surprise because they have been rejecting the Constitution as our governing document and principles for decades. They are putting into action what they have been saying forever.

Recall that Obama, in 2001 years BEFORE he was elected, disparaged the Constitution in the worst possible way. He said it was merely “a charter of negative liberties. It says what the states can’t do to you. Says what the federal government can’t do to you but doesn’t say what the federal government or state government must do on your behalf.” He believes that changing the Constitution in this way would bring about “redistributive change.”

It is obvious there is no middle ground with that mindset.

Around here leftists are arming up.

Around here too. This has been going on for several years now. I see them at public ranges in duos and trios occasionally, and they are confident enough to show their affiliations with emblems on hats, t-shirts, and bumper stickers. Everybody is very polite at the ranges.

They are diligent practitioners and know what they are doing. In an armed conflict, they won't be easy pushovers.

Plan accordingly.

Why must we abide by the constitution to effectively thwart those who are intent on destroying it?

If there is no law, then there is no law

Yes, the Left tells you what it is going to do and it works to do it. The Democrats reward their voters.

The Republican Party, on the ohter hand, piously tells us what it is going to do yet never does it. They just want our votes and our money, not our principles and convicitions.

It disturbs me greatly that the GOP is, in a very real sense, more deceptive and mendacious than the Democrats are.

I worked around liberals for many years. I can assure you they harbor deep disdain and resentment toward conservatives. Their antipathy is far more intense than most realize. You have to see them inside their own “habitat” to appreciate this.

The Left perceives conservatives as THE enemy. All other evil forces in the world are seen as benign and essentially on their side given the chance to work with them.

Conservatives’ love of personal freedom makes us a dangerous and implacable adversary in their eyes.
