Former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning wants out of a Virginia jail — and is getting support from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Manning, 31, who was jailed on March 8 on contempt charges by a federal judge for refusing to testify to a grand jury investigating WikiLeaks, wants to be released as the judge’s order is appealed. Manning, 31, is also asking to not be required to testify, reiterating her stance earlier this month to Virginia federal Judge Claude Hilton that she has no intention of doing so.
Ocasio-Cortez said Tuesday that Manning has been “trapped in solitary confinement” for refusing to answer questions before a grand jury.
“Solitary confinement is torture,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “Chelsea is being tortured for whistleblowing, she should be released on bail, and we should ban extended solitary in the US.”
Attorneys for Manning argue that her testimony won’t change from what she told a court-martial in 2013 and that no amount of jail time will compel her to cooperate in the WikiLeaks probe of more than 700,000 classified documents connected to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that she gave the group in 2010.

He was a spy. He dug for documents and was not a “whistleblower”. He claimed he did it because he didn’t agree with Bill Clinton’s “don’t ask don’t tell” policy.

I guess AOC had no problem with Manafort spending a year in actual solitary for a process crime
He belongs in a mental hospital. He is not sane and is a danger to himself and others. Wasn’t all that long ago he posted a public suicide threat... needs to be confined for his own well being and the safety of the public.

Well it ain't a country club darlin'... It is supposed to be unpleasant - that's the deterrent value. That's why you want to obey the law or be willing to suffer the consequences.
Seriously though, how bad is it when you have AOC on your side? I could see TS in jail for contempt (because I actually do have nothing but contempt for a lot of these "judges")..."Wait, AOC is advocating for me? Hey, tell the Judge I'm ready to apologize!!!" ;-)
The Democrats will have to release a lot of them to make room for those of us they will arrest.
Refusing to answer to a grand jury is not whistleblowing.
If you believe in whatever it is that you blew the whistle on, then stand on your convictions and answer to them, but regardless of that, you have to comply with the judicial process or you’ve got to expect consequences. AOC wasn’t stepping up to get Manafort out of confinement, was she?
This is how low political warfare has gotten to. Defend the indefensible, and attack the innocent.
