President Trump announced plans Monday for a Second Step Act focused on easing employment barriers for formerly incarcerated people.
"We are proving we're a nation that believes in redemption," Trump said at a White House event celebrating people released under the First Step Act, which he signed in December.
Trump said the "second step" legislation will feature a $88 million funding request for prisoner social reentry programs.

Well, a lot of prisoners made stupid choices... some can’t learn better, some can.
Not sure but I think getting law abiding citizens a job first and let the rehabilitation be paid to cleaning up those filthy homeless camps, roads and freeways. There’d be a good use of federal aid.
Which is supposed to have what kind of implication towards this sort of program? That it’s a fatalistic question and therefore this sort of program is useless?
There’s no reason that programs for the honest poor can’t go on in parallel.
It would be work for their resume and to prove they can behave and a private entity would be more apt to hire them after that.
I like it.
Fair question.
Some will not benefit from this because their viewpoint is inherently wrong.
Some will because their’s isn’t- it was just a mistake that made them criminals.
I agree with you
I worked for a company that gave felons a second chance. Nine out of 10 ended up as the top employees in their group. They showed up every day, worked hard, were incredibly loyal. We treated everyone the same so they were all part of a family. Im all for this program.
People make mistakes, some make horrible mistakes, but given a chance they can turn their lives around.
.... I watched this presentation today and The President was absolutely and impressively at the top of his game on this one ....
I believe as you do.
Seen a few cases here and there.
Yeah, most people just made a mistake.
Those whose worldview says that theft is right won’t learn.
This will be a hard sell to people who think that the proper punishment for jaywalking is to be thrown into prison and gang raped.
Isn’t that special.
True.
Offsetting spending cuts should be announced with EVERY new proposal (the “1st Step” program [last summer] was at least $200 million in spending). Otherwise the $8 Billion a DAY in deficit spending isn’t going to get any smaller.
They first thanked God and then President Trump. A good start. Am wishing them all well.
Perhaps this could be an option for the Trump Organization, as opposed to bringing in foreigners on H2B visas to work at their resorts.
Yes. And Jesus is all about second chances and redemption. President Trump gets it for sure.
I can’t argue with that.
