There was a time when the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) was widely respected for its courageous work. Oppressive hate groups like the KKK had no greater enemy than the SPLC. The SPLC stood for justice, for righteousness, for the rights of the poor and the downtrodden.
As expressed on the SPLC website, Alabama lawyer and businessman Morris Dees sympathized with the plight of the poor and the powerless. The son of an Alabama farmer, he had witnessed firsthand the devastating consequences of bigotry and racial injustice. Dees decided to sell his successful book publishing business to start a civil rights law practice that would provide a voice for the disenfranchised.

They’ll just pull an ACORN and rename themselves and be back in bidness in no time.
The SPLC isn’t going anywhere, not with half a billion dollars in their accounts and over $50 million a year in donations. They may change their name if it’s cosmetically expedient, but they’ll continue their irresponsible scare-mongering and finger-pointing. The Klan — the pitiful, impotent, informant-riddled Klan — was the best thing ever to happen to those shysters.
Dees got his start in direct-marketing. What better money-making scam than marketing non-stop fictional hate-porn to gullible northern and California liberals?
Dees and the SPLC have been rotten to the core from the start.

The SPLC became a hate group and we became the object of its hatred.
The SPLC is a perfect example of Liberal institutions. They are corrupt from jump street and become more so over time as they become more greedy, more criminal, and more self absorbed.
We can only hope.
Isn’t this the outfit that inspired the armed attack on the Family Research Council in DC..?
Half a billion dollars.
Let’s see.
Run for profit to produce graft skimmed off by the founders.
Falsely taxed as if it really were a nonprofit.
Forty years of back taxes on the profitable un-”nonprofit” with interest and punative fees.
Tastey money for the taxman.
The KKK had no better friends than the ACLU and the FBI.
Fighting their battles and keeping their enrollment numbers “up”.
He probably saw Maddy Murray O’Hair getting rich off of leftist zelotry.
“There was a time when the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) was widely respected for its courageous work.”
There was also a time when MSNBC, CNN, NBC, ABC, and even FOX News used to actually broadcast news but are now just propagation TV shows for the Democrats.
I actually remember when MSNBC was a pretty good news outfit. Their early coverage of the Iraq war was second to none.
Thanks rktman. It's amazing how the PR of an organization can be so successful at the outset that its reputation continues to be based on that even when it is shown to have been a humbug.
It’s about time the plug has been pulled on this scam.
There was a time they had fans here on this very forum.
I know its hard to believe but frank discussion on race in the early 2000s usually brought a hellstorm of fairly politically correct denunciation
