Why do Republicans still back Trump? The answer is simple: Attitude and gratitude

For years, Republican voters wanted someone — anyone — to come along and do two things: stick it to the Clintons and punch back against the media-Democratic Party alliance that fires on every Republican brave enough to stick a head out of the foxhole.

Why still back Trump? One reason is that all other options are worse by orders of magnitude. Plus, we are a loyal group; we even stuck by W for the most part.

Great article, even from a suspect source. Thanks for posting.

The best line: "And the barkeep will hang Robert Mueller’s report in the back of a urinal."

Trump won in part because huge swaths of the country thought Barack Obama had taken us too far to the left, too fast.

I would say Trump won in part because the Democrats nominated the least likable candidate that they had. And that candidate went on to run a terrible campaign. I don't think Obama or his policies played much into it.

Yeah first this is a surprisingly good article from that LA times.

Second, why did he buy into what tech giants are saying about not enough talent in this country?

They just don’t want to pay more.

I love Trump. Hes a fellow NYer, he socks it to them every chance he gets.

But a little concerned about the HiB’s also.

The last paragraph is true, even for low info yoga Republicans. Most Republicans want a fair shake at the American dream and are willing to perform hard work to get it. They don’t enjoy being insulted daily for their race, and whites and Asians often are. They hate group politics and they don’t want to work really hard for their money to go to people who either broke the law to get here or people who choose not to put forth the effort.

I wish enough of them did back Trump. The swamp takes priority though

Questions arise:

1) How many PERCENT of Republicans back Trump?

2) How many PERCENT of ELECTED Republicans in the House and Senate back Trump?

MORE IMPORTANTLY,

3) How many PERCENT OF THE OVERALL TOTAL of those who elected Trump ( including Independents and Blue Dog Democrats ) still back Trump?

So much wrong wit this article. It’s never been about “sticking it to” the Clintons. It’s about the terrible policies of the Democrats, including the Clintons.

“It’s never been about ‘sticking it to’ the Clintons.”

Oh, yeah; it has. At least to some degree. I get enormous vicarious pleasure any time Trump blatantly “sticks it to the Clintons”.

Interesting piece, considering the following:

I supported Trump because as far as I'm concerned, he's NOT a Republican.

article: "a succession of honorable [sic] leaders — think George W. Bush, John McCain, Mitt Romney — were portrayed by the media as stupid or feeble or criminal"

Well if the shoe fits wear it.

He cut taxes, rolled back Obama’s regulatory regime and appointed bushels of young conservative judges to go with two rock-star Supreme Court picks. And polling shows GOP voters stand with Trump on stemming illegal immigration more than the congressional handwringers,...

He does what he said he would do and doesn't give a crap about the political fallout from doing what's right for US. I could care less about Stormy Daniels, Russia, or whatever. I don't care if he says off-color things in a hallway. I do care about idiots who say we should let illegals vote, get SS, Medicare, and welfare benefits...they're trying to buy votes with our money. Free cell phones for deadbeats...why? I'm an economist and, as long as I think his economic policies are good for the economic system and the people who depend upon it for a livelihood, I don't care what he does in private as long as it doesn't affect other people.
