House Democrats voted Friday to defend localities that allow illegal immigrants to vote in their elections, turning back a GOP attempt to discourage the practice.
The vote marks a stunning reversal from just six months ago, when the chamber — then under GOP control — voted to decry illegal immigrant voting.
“We are prepared to open up the political process and let all of the people come in,” Rep. John Lewis, a Georgia Democrat and hero of the civil rights movement, told colleagues as he led opposition to the GOP measure.
The 228-197 vote came as part of a broader debate on Democrats’ major legislative priority this year, HR 1, the “For the People Act,” which includes historic expansions of voter registration and access, as well as a major rewrite of campaign finance laws.
The measure would have had no practical effect even if it had passed. Illegal immigrants — and indeed noncitizens as a whole — are not legally able to participate in federal elections.

This will die in the Senate - if it even is even taken up by McConnell. If were by some perversion able to pass in the senate, it would be vetoed by President Trump - and I seriously doubt such could be overridden.

It’s time we consider illegal entry by any person who is a non Mexican citizen illegally entering the United States through the US Mexican border a defacto Mexican citizen with limited Mexican constitutional rights subject to their laws while transiting. As well as any Mexican citizen entering illegaly exempting those who do so legally and meet US citizenship requirements. All subject to reciprocal citizen treatment a citizen of the United States receives in Mexico through the Mexican constitution on citizenship .
Besides being unable to vote one must also be a citizen to own land and Mexico is very restrictive about granting citizenship. Because of that a US citizen besides not being able to vote,and cannot have title in their name to any land property in Mexico. And until that is changed the US and the affected state should consider making that reciprocal. Prohibiting any illegal entrant employment, voting, and land ownership prviledges fully enforced ..
I just assumed this would be the Babylon Bee when I read the headline.
This is just a trial balloon. They want to lower the voting age. The young vote is easier to cultivate.
They should add a rule onto it....Representatives can also be non-American, and no requirement for the Representative to speak English.
If legislation like this can be passed then it's over...as in OVER over.
The fact that the majority of tax paying Americans aren't completely OUTRAGED by this is just sad.

The title is a bit misleading. It’s about something bigger than AOC, but AOC is just the beginning.
Democrats in the next 2 elections to receive a see ya card.
This isn’t about us giving them power, but their taking it by illegal means.
I look at it as their first launch. I realize it wouldn’t get past the Senate (although I must admit that I wondered) and that it would get vetoed, but it was their amazing boldness to introduce the subject that got me. I didn’t think they’d be firing that shot this soon.

Why are we getting our knickers in a twist about this? When the Republicans held the House with a Democrat led Senate and President, we all knew it was kabuki theater and never took the House seriously. Heck, they even told us, we can’t do anything without the Senate. . .and they didn’t. But they passed more bills than they did after they got the Senate, and way more than they did after we won the Presidency.
Trump will veto this idiocy, but the extreme theater from the House Dems will drive more and more people to vote Republican regardless of party affiliation.
Oh HELL NO. How is this in any way constitutional???
