House Democrats voted Friday to defend localities that allow illegal immigrants to vote in their elections, turning back a GOP attempt to discourage the practice.
The vote marks a stunning reversal from just six months ago, when the chamber then under GOP control voted to decry illegal immigrant voting.
We are prepared to open up the political process and let all of the people come in, Rep. John Lewis, a Georgia Democrat and hero of the civil rights movement, told colleagues as he led opposition to the GOP measure.
The 228-197 vote came as part of a broader debate on Democrats major legislative priority this year, HR 1, the For the People Act, which includes historic expansions of voter registration and access, as well as a major rewrite of campaign finance laws.
The measure would have had no practical effect even if it had passed. Illegal immigrants and indeed noncitizens as a whole are not legally able to participate in federal elections.

I posted this video on a liberal site and heads exploded. Basically they refuse to watch or watch a little bit and consider it far right claptrap.
Oddly, they never argue against a single point he is making. It’s how they roll. Their three primary weapons are Deflection, projection and ad-hominem. Again, it’s how they roll.
There is a constant claim around here that the American people/electorate is “conservative.” That is a joke.
Outrage after outrage from the Left and hardly a peep from either. They even turn the House over to the Demons in an election which should have been a massive GOP victory.
Glad it wasn’t just me. It’s just naked now. Total anti-citizen.
Democrats have become walking self-parodies. Not long ago, they used to complain that their political opponents caricatured their views by describing their agenda as being about open borders and full citizenship rights for illegal immigrants. Now they’ve lived up to or surpassed that caricature.
Illegals pay taxes in several ways."
Vacationers from foreign countries pay taxes while here. Should they get a say/a vote in their representation?
Students here on Visa's pay taxes in our country. Should they get a say/a vote in their representation?
Workers here on Visa's pay taxes in our country. Should they get a say/a vote in their representation?
Ambassador's and other foreign dignitaries pay taxes in our country. Should they get a say/a vote in their representation?
Just because someone pays taxes in our country, doesn't mean it would be "logical" for them to have a say or a vote for representation in this country.
No, it's your position that's quite illogical and in contradiction to the original "taxation without representation" phrase that you mentioned.
States control voter registration under very few constitutional requirements. Maybe someone can tell me how giving them the vote violates the constitution.
You seem to think that CW2 would be a civilized fight between easily identified/identifiable enemies.
We can only defeat the Demons by outsmarting them, in other words we are dorked.
you are presenting exceptions to what i said before. Many illegals reside here the rest of their lives.
If your list was the only examples, then I would agree with you, but you are again using exceptions to what I said.
The reality is that many illegals pay no taxes (those that do work are often paid under the table so that they can be hired below minimum wage) and yet they and their innumerable offspring reap the benefits of various social programs. Rather than worrying about taxation without representation, you should be worrying about social benefits without taxation.
Furthermore, people with green cards, work visas, student visas etc don't get to vote either, yet they pay income and payroll taxes. If some illegals who are paid aboveboard wages rather than under the table get payroll tax deductions in the process, why should anyone lose sleep over it?
Soap box, Ballot box, Ammo box.
If our right to vote is stolen and placed in the hands of Mexicans, Salvadorans, Africans, etc... then we are basically left with one option.
Traitors.
DC, the enemy of USAians and our USConstitution. Lawless creatures of crime.
US House of Representatives conspiring to deny We-The-People our right to lawful government. High crimes and treason, pure and simple.
If your list was the only examples, then I would agree with you, but you are again using exceptions to what I said."
"taxation without representation" does not, nor should not, apply to anyone who is here as a foreign national...regardless of their length of "stay" or their legal status.
foreign nationals (w/o dual nationality) owe their complete allegiance to their home country. nobody in that position, owing their complete allegiance to a foreign power, should ever get a say in representation in this country.
Me too. This is out of control.
Virture signaling is great for its practitioners, because no actual virtue is needed.
IF you live here and pay taxes and you don’t get to vote, then it applies.
You are missing the big picture when i said they have no business being here. I am presenting to you the logic liberals are using and with the school vote in SF the camel’s nose is under the tent.
And they will continue using it till judges and McConnell give them what they want.
Not enough to overturn a veto from Trump but shameful.
We arent going to vote our way out of this.
The entire political class has rigged the system for their own permanent benefit.
We are going to have to overturn this terminally corrupt government the old fashioned way.
I imagine if there are federal issues on the ballots they will vote for those too.
Across the nation millions of illegal aliens voted.
Couple that with other vote fraud ie ACORN dead democrats etc etc is it no wonder that Clinton got so many votes and that many dems were elected to congress?
