UPDATE
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) released the following statement about the decision:
House Democrats chose today to make a purely political statement against President Trump instead of taking seriously the national emergency at our countrys southern border. The Presidents declaration along with legislative action to appropriate funds for border security will answer the call from experts and border security personnel on the ground to provide the resources needed to stop illegal entry into our country and the dangers associated with it.
Through their resistance, Democrats are closing their eyes and turning their backs to human trafficking victims, victims of drug addiction, and Angel Families who have lost loved ones.
Not only does the President have the legal authority to declare this national emergency under two federal statutes, the move is far from unprecedented: there are currently 31 national emergencies still in effect since the National Emergencies Act was enacted by Congress in 1976.
House Republicans will continue to listen to the experts and the American people, who agree we need stronger border security. I invite House Democrats to join us in protecting the citizens of the United States.
Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) released the following statement:
While Speaker Pelosi and her liberal lieutenants refuse to support the money necessary to secure our border, President Trump took an oath to keep our country safe, and is using all legal tools available to protect Americans from the crime, drugs, and human trafficking that comes across our southern border every day. Speaker Pelosis resolution blocking the national emergency declaration is another example of her refusal to secure our border, and would leave Americans less safe. I was proud to stand with victims of illegal immigrant crime today and vote against this useless and irresponsible resolution.
ORIGINAL
The House of Representatives passed a resolution on Tuesday evening to overturn President Donald Trump's national emergency declaration along the southern border. The declaration was a way for Trump to build his highly-anticipated border wall without Congressional approval.
The predominately came down party lines, with the exception of one Republican, Rep. Justin Amash (R-MN), who voted with Democrats in opposition to the declaration.
Amash took to Twitter to explain his vote while also slamming fellow Republicans:
The same congressional Republicans who joined me in blasting Pres. Obamas executive overreach now cry out for a king to usurp legislative powers. If your faithfulness to the Constitution depends on which party controls the White House, then you are not faithful to it.
The vote passed with a vote of 245-182.
Yawn.
How many times did the House vote to repeal Obamacare?
Disgusting, these despicable congress swamp creatures love lawbreaking, criminal illegal aliens over America and American CITIZENS.
Its not presidential overreach as its already illegal to cross the border. Its not as if Trump made up immigration laws.
Maybe the Senate will send the Resolution back to the House as a suppository.
And now it dies in the Senate.
JoMa
Re-pansy-cans in the senate already turning over and kneeling. Lucky PDJT has a pen and a phone.
Uniparty.
“...And now it dies in the Senate....”
Or it dies under the VETO PEN in the Oval Office.....go Trump!!
When DEMOCRATS skew a vote, it's "HOUSE OVERTURNS.."
FU MEDIA.
All I care about is that it is along party lines except for ONE lone Republican.
I’d call it actively fighting against the country, what the RINOs are doing. Article 3 Section 3.
WHERE THE HELL IS THE RNC?!!!! Those RINOS NEED to KNOW and hear the wrath of their base...I WILL be calling Will Hurd of TX tomorrow and the RNC BETTER NOT SUPPORT THIS TRASH RINO!! They’ll be hearing from me too!! Sick of this shit!!!!! When we had Congress not one freaking DemoKKKrat stepped out of line and voted with the Republicans ever! WILL HURD your days are numbered in congress!!
Lets wrap this Freepathon up, Folks!
House & Senate
Lemme get this straight.
Senate is too timid to protect the human life of a live baby after an attempted abortion and the baby is left to die by the mother and doctor.
Bold and arrogant enough in the House to allow illegals to spread communicable diseases, get on welfare, disrupt law enforcement, invade homes, gang rape girls and distribute drugs in the US. Trump’s attempt to get funding to enforce the law with a Wall is thwarted. THAT they vote for right away.
The image of illegals is a family sneaking across the border. That was never the whole story but since the caravans it has to be relegated to the memory hole. An army of thousands that we cannot screen and have no way to know who they are is a different thing. Wave after wave of such armies is, yes, an emergency.
Amash is always turning his reversible coat. The guy is as comfortable standing inside the GOP tent and pi$$ing on the center ring as he would be standing outside and pi$$ing through the entrance.
13 republicans voted with democrats.
