Jewish advocacy groups have protested after an American reporter erroneously referred to an uprising against a Polish and Nazi regime during World War II.

While reporting from the Polish capital on Wednesday, Andrea Mitchell, a foreign affairs correspondent for the MSNBC television network, suggested that a World War II-era uprising by Jews in the Warsaw ghetto was staged against “the Polish and Nazi regime.”
The American Jewish Committee's Warsaw-based Central Europe office has responded in a tweet that “it is beyond the pale to assert Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto fought against ‘Polish and Nazi regimes.’”
The organisation added: “This is basics of history: they rose up against the German oppressor. Journalists should do their homework before speaking to millions.”

Meanwhile, the Forum of Polish Jews has tweeted: “Andrea Mitchell of NBC/MSNBC, in a report from Warsaw, has said that the Warsaw ghetto uprising was fought against ‘the Polish and Nazi regime.’ What can one say about such a gigantic, shameless instance of ignorance?! This is an absolute scandal!”
To absolutny SKANDAL! https://t.co/VrKTeeG20E — Forum Zydow Polskich (@ForumFZP) February 14, 2019
The Polish embassy in Washington has corrected Mitchell in a tweet to say that “the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was a heroic act against the German Nazis who established the ghetto and carried out the Holocaust.”
The Polish embassy also said that during World War II “Poland was attacked and occupied by the German Nazi regime.”
Thank you @mitchellreports @MSNBC for reporting in Warsaw. However, the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was a heroic act against the German Nazis who established the ghetto & carried out the #Holocaust. During WWII Poland was attacked &occupied by the German Nazi regime. #WordsMatter
What? Andrea Mitchell can’t get her “rioting Jew” story straight? Not to worry...she’ll have plenty more chances.
These “Andrea Mitchell” types have never been reporters. Just dancing TV propaganda fools reading scripts.
There was a lot of anti-Semitism throughout Poland and Eastern Europe and Russia in general. It certainly was not specific to Poland. Uris' Mila 18 is a great tale of the Warsaw Occupation and uprising.
Well, it is MSNPC...
You know, I don't expect her to read a history book but surely she could have watched Sophie's Choice. Sophie and her family weren't Jewish.
“Andrea Mitchell is not only a moronic harpie but she also fails the photogenic test.”
I don’t have the photographic proof but I’m thinking that “back in the day” she probably had something going for her to get hired initially.
Journalists do. Andrea Mitchell is no journalist. And you'd be hard pressed to find one in the employ of MSNBC or just about any other news media outlet.
Andrea Mitchell is never wrong - just ask Brian Williams
She is even dumber than she is ugly. Damn it, she should know this. She was alive then wasn’t she?
That’s right; Stalin didn’t want an independent pro-Western government in power when the Soviets reached Warsaw (that is why the Soviets executed Polish officers and such in the first invasion), so they let the Germans crush them first.
In the end, Britain and France went to war for Poland’s independence and ended up without it; Churchill was furious. All those lives wasted for nothing, and they both ended up with very weakened empires.
Too often people make mass condemnations of people who were citizens of an oppressive government which committed atrocities.
The Polish people were denied their own government from the endo f the 18th century until just after WW1. Then when Hitler invaded Poland in 1939, they were demolished and surrendered. The German Nazi army occupied Poland until 1945 - until the Russian army invaded from the east. Thereafter Poland was under the oppressive rule of the Communist government until 1989.
So, if some Polish people committed serious crimes against Jews after WWII, it does not condemn all of the Polish people. The fact is, there were also some Polish men who joined the Communist Polish army and mistreated their own citizens. The poor Polish people were not able to overthrow the Iron Curtain until several key people appeared in history: Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, Margaret Thatcher, Lech Walensa, and ... Fr. Jerzy Popieluszko. I will bet that hardly anyone has ever heard of this heroic Polish priest.
You should look him up on Google, and never forget his name.
The 1500 was spread all over the country and only a fraction was due to anti-semitism.
Not an error. THEY will do anything to rewrite history..
There were 2 pogroms during the war - both horrible and not to be forgotten
But Poles cannot accept being clubbed with Germans as a nation that actively sought to kill Jews as a nation. They did not.
The Kielce Pogrom, which was instigated by the NKVD.
Anti-Polonist trash.
The other “Holocaust” nobody bothers to mention is the 100,000+ Poles killed by ethnic Ukrainians during the war, in the Volhynia Region.
