Illinois legislators moved quickly Thursday to deliver one of new Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzkers top campaign promises, a gradual hike in the statewide minimum wage from $8.25 to $15 an hour more than double the pay floor that most of its Midwestern neighbors require.
The state House voted 69-41 to send the Senate-approved plan to Pritzker, who watched the roll call from the House floor. Hed urged lawmakers to send him the legislation before next Wednesday, when he announces his first budget plan.
Republicans lashed out at Democrats for refusing to compromise and pushing too fast, particularly because the first wage increase wouldnt occur until January. [ ]
During more than two hours of debate Thursday, Republicans, who have long criticized high costs on business in the form of workers compensation insurance and property taxes, complained the steep and costly wage ramp is another impediment to commerce. They argue it will cost jobs in a state where statistics show more than 60 percent of residents live within 40 miles of a state border.

Don’t know if anyone mentioned this before, but I wonder if part of the fallout of raising the minimum is to not necessarily reduce the company’s workforce, but maybe they’ll lay off the Americans and turn around and hire an illegal who will work for $4.00/hr cash.
Not that the Democrats care about the American worker anyway...

Move the Capitol there. Turn Va. red again. Chicago. They’ll get their exercise dodging bullets.
And they’ll be rewarded with far lower membership than ever. Even in the public sector.
Other non-Dem regions will improve dramatically, balancing it out (and most likely resulting in an overall improvement for the nation); and the Dems will have cut off their noses to spite their faces.
What do they do about people who are already making $15? Will they get a raise, or will they suddenly have a minimum wage job?
Excellent! The more people they can put out of business and drive to America the better.
