On New Years Day this year, I predicted in a column published here that under pressure of various governmental investigations, Donald Trump will be compelled to resign from the presidency before the end of 2019. The recent disclosures regarding these investigations have strengthened my position.
Upon Trumps resignation from the presidency, Vice President Mike Pence will become the president. Pence, however, will be a very poor reelection prospect in 2020.
Mike and Karen Pence, his wife, have a well-deserved reputation for extremism on social issues, particularly on issues affecting gay and lesbian voters. The Pences possess a kook factor they wont be able to shake loose due to their advocacy of far-right social issue positions.
So the search will be on for an alternative 2020 Republican presidential candidate to Mike Pence. Given the ability of the Trump base to veto any such alternative, the Pence opponent must not be somebody identified as a Trump adversary. That rules out former Ohio Gov. John Kasich or Nebraska U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse.
The Republican who will emerge as the opponent to Pence will be none other than former Gov. Chris Christie, a man of irrepressible ambition who has never relinquished his presidential aspirations. And his service in the 2016 Trump campaign ensures his acceptability to the Trump base.
In case youre wondering, this is not an endorsement. If youve read my commentary before, you know that no New Jersey Republican criticized both Christies tenure as governor and his failed 2016 presidential run more vehemently than I.
Yet, I must be dispassionate and divorce my personal views of Christie from any assessment as to his past performance and his future viability as a candidate for the White House.

Power corrupts the big ego
Dead Man Walking
This guy claims to be Republican...*ROFLMAO*
HOR53SH17!!!
KYPD
The rats and the media will give Christie the same treatment they are giving Trump. It will be endless reports of Bridgegate and Beachgate.
Served in the EPA???Would he have been the guy that told Christy Todd Whitman that Ground Zero was safe two weeks after 9/11?
Another Romney-winger of the corporate liberal party.
Newsflash! Alan J. Steinberg is a delusional moron.
Steinberg is off his meds.
Alan Steinberg eats LSD like candy corn.
Alan J. Steinberg needs to upgrade his fantasy:
- Surely Pence will recognize that he benefited from unlawful collusion.
- As a devout Christian, Pence will be unable to bear that shame and will also resign.
- Pelosi, presented with the opportunity to become the First Woman President will recognize that Hillary deserves the honor more,
- so Pelosi will call an immediate House vote for Speaker, personally nominating Hillary Clinton as Speaker of the House.
- Hillary will win by acclimation minutes before Pence’s resignation goes into effect.
And that’s how Hillary will become the First Woman President, as she was always meant to be.
The deeper into insanity leftists descend, the more I enjoy laughing at them. Who will win in 2020 though, in this bizarro fictional world, President Hillary, or Governor Christie?
“Mike and Karen Pence, his wife, have a well-deserved reputation for extremism on social issues, particularly on issues affecting gay and lesbian voters.”
In other words, if you are a bible believing Christian, you are an extremist on social issues. You must jettison your Bible and do what the Sexually Perverted tell you to do. Or else.
I would look for a Pence alternative. He is GOPe and has been very absent in aggressively defending Trump.
So yinz guys can just rip him to shreds in the General Election over Bridgegate? No thank you.
Served in the EPA???Would he have been the guy that told Christy Todd Whitman that Ground Zero was safe two weeks after 9/11? >>
You’re right about that, he may have been the one...
Trump staying safe, neither of those guys will ever be president.
What about Christie’s career as a high fashion model? What happens to that when he runs for President in 2020?
If Donald Trump is forced to resign or is impeached and convicted, my advice to the GOP is to save some money and don’t bother to nominate a candidate in 2020.
Pence is a walking cadaver.
