“Geisinger Gold and Medicare picked-up 99.5% of the costs.”
After they went to the negotiated cost of about $10,000.
However,I've never set foot in any country/region where Spanish was the predominant language...and never will.
And to have any kind of medical or surgical treatment in Mexico boggles my mind!
Would you let a mechanic in Mexico work on your Porsche? If you were a pilot would you fly to Mexico to have them work on your plane? But your ok with a Mexican dentist working on your teeth which are an inch away from your brain. Let me know how it works out.
They “denied” a lot of charges, but it wasn’t negotiated down to anywhere near $10k. I have all the costs Geisinger paid; not so w/ Medicare.
Without wanting to start a fight, isnt that about the same as importing a worker from Mexico to take your job at one quarter wages? Im curious if you support the border wall.
Not really. You’re going to Mexico, not bringing the Mexican dentist into the U.S.
Why shouldn’t a consumer shop around? If American dentists aren’t going to price themselves competitively, that’s their own fault.
If something goes wrong let us know how your malpractice lawsuit against the Mexican dentist goes
Bianchi holsters...damn fine as are Wrangler jeans. Why made in Mexico? Filthy US politicians, absurd government regulations and red tape, taxes, unions etc.
I don’t know anything but seems like Thailand has a good reputation for providing medical care?
Superbugs are known by names such as:
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
Clostridium difficile (C.Diff)
Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE)
Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) and Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP)
Necrotizing fasciitis, the flesh-eating bacterial disease
I believe you. My point is that original hospital charges are no where close to what is finally accepted and actually paid by medicare. Hospitals and doctors are still doing ok.
My Local US dentist, 3 miles from the border, say most of his winter work is repairing bad dentistry from mexico.
He fixes bad root canals where the root material isn't completely removed and metal implements are left in the canals. His second biggest business is fixing bad implants. Third on the list is poorly fitting dentures.
All those patients get to pay twice.
I know quite a few people who have gone to Mexico for dental care, health care, prescriptions, veterinary care, etc. The clinics are usually modern and clean and very cheap... I also have known many people who got mrsa or other infections from US hospitals. I think some people just dont like the idea of a robust free market thriving such as the private health care in Mexico. There are downsides of course. Want to sue? Good luck with that so get referrals just like you would here.
You’re right on both counts. They do negotiate on the charges. I know what Geisinger Gold paid, since I get a monthly item-by-item wrap-up of drugs, hospital, ER, Dr’s visits, etc etc etc.
I don’t know how to get ahold of Medicare numbers, but I suspect they do some serious negotiation, as well.
If I didn’t have both, I’d have been bankrupt midway thru that 23-day stay at York Hospital, and probably wouldn’t have made it to PSU-Hershey.
My mom picked up MRSA and C.Diff while hosptialized last year at an American hospital. So these superbugs aren’t limited to Mehico health facilities as some on here would like to think.
Yes. My sister died of mrsa contracted in a US hospital. Hospital induced infection is a problem everywhere in the world. Not sure what the point of the article is?
A coworker went to Mexico for a combo vacation/ hair transplant.
He went back twice, did not grow.
Now bald just like the rest of us.
Ha! Fools!!
They could have gotten all kinds of deadly bugs in US hospitals, for only 10X the price - and a lifetime prescription to 3-5 drugs, not covered by Obamacare.
Whats wrong with people...?
Thailand has a good reputation for providing medical care?
Excellent and far less expensive.
