Native Twitter has gone ablaze as a Native American elder singing the AIM Song in Washington DC during the Indigenous Peoples March was ridiculed, taunted and mocked by a group of non-Native youth.
The video, which was posted by YouTube account holder KC NOLAND, was also screen captured and shared on other social media accounts with views shortly gaining tens of thousands of views.
The elder is Nathan Phillips, an Omaha elder who is also a Vietnam Veteran and former director of the Native Youth Alliance. He is also a keeper of a sacred pipe and holds an annual ceremony honoring Native American veterans in the Arlington National Cemetery.
Phillips is also the subject of a previous racially-based incident when he was taunted and harassed by Eastern Michigan University students who were dressed stereo-typically as Native Americans. As reported in FOX 2 News, he was yelled at and hit by a thrown beer can.
In a previous interview with Phillips, he told Indian Country Today that returning from Vietnam was not easy as a veteran. People called me a baby killer and a hippie girl spit on me.
Indian Country Today does not have further details, but will report as more details emerge.
Oh, AIM,,,, Free Leonard Peltier! /s
The young man in the gray jacket held his ground as the drummer pushed through.
The drummer tried his damnedest to intimidate the kid who had a pleasant and detached affect. He did not react to the leftist intimidation.
that is a kid I want on my side.
The old guy was sharing the moment with the young guy and they young guy was participating.
It was the same as two guys in each others' face while singing their favorite song.
There are no “native” Americans. Some immigrants just got here before others is all.
I dont see the problem. The one kid was standing pretty close to the drummer but you couldnt tell who got close to the other first.
I’m a native American! I was born in WASH, DC. If I’m not a native American, what am I native to?
Leftists who talk about the rights of "Native Americans" would go nuts if anyone started discussing the rights of Native Europeans in Europe to not be supplanted by invaders.
Hi how are ya
Hi how are ya
Get over it. They are so hung up over a culture in which their people were living as primitives, while in Europe, Michaelangelo was painting the Sisteen Chapel.
Didn't look like it.
Looked like young white kids who are sick and tired of being told that they are the cause of every misfortune in the world and tired of being told that respect is a one-way street. They're having fun. They're not hurting anyone.
I think that the Indians wanted to be out raged. I saw this on another site that is for Genizaros and they were furious, calling the boys out. They said these boys are from a Catholic high school.
It looks as though the indigenous peoples march was scheduled for the same day as the March for life? If so these boys mightve been there with a large Catholic group from that high school. It was in Washington DC and apparently yesterday.
My tribal name translates out to something like,
Old Skunk Who Fouls The Air
Strikes fear into the hearts of other warriors.
The only disrespect was when that idiot woman started bitching and dropping the f-bomb.
Good way to get a burning arrow stuck in your chest.
I also suspect false flags here. ID the youths and you will find a trail to Soros
I think their reaction is one of seeing something they had not been exposed to before, something very new and very different, an awkward effort to participate not knowing really how to react.
I did not see any disrespect really. More awkwardness.
You go to help the settlers start a campfire from a distance, and your aim is off a little bit, and you get labeled forever.
I don’t blame Indians for being offended. Either the kids were totally ignorant (a strong possibility) and/or were making fun of the Indian singers (the proper term for what the drumming and chanting is called). It certainly looked like ridicule, to me. They were NOT “joining in”, as some have suggested. It may sound like nonsense to the average listener, but the words that are being sung have specific meanings. I am offended and embarrassed that such rude and mocking kids were wearing MAGA hats; they behaved shamefully, and don’t deserve to wear the hats, as they give Trump supporters a bad name. Go to an Indian ceremonial dance, sometime; you will see that veterans are honored and venerated. You will see young people, including those much younger than the brats in this video, participating in honoring both the veterans, and the Indian culture. Shame on these mocking brats, and shame on FReepers who think it’s all right to ridicule these Indians!
Gosh.
Now that you put it that way.....
I feel appropriately chastised.
I give that song a 42. The words sound like theyre just reciting the alphabet, but you can dance to it if theres a weasel crawling up your leg.
I, being part Tsalagi (Bird Clan), thank you...
