Anti-Semites are violating federal law by boycotting Israel and Israeli companies and institutions. Activists in the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, one of the highest-profile global projects of the left, are subject to criminal and financial penalties, including jail time of five years and fines up to $50,000. A U.S. exporter can lose the right to export any products to any country.
So why isnt the U.S. Department of Justice enforcing the anti-boycott laws? President Donald Trump should order the Office of Antiboycott Compliance to come out of cryogenic stasis and get back to work, and order DOJ to start enforcing the law.
This month, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., introduced legislation as an amendment to SB 1 to blunt the economic warfare against Israel Democrats are split over the addition of Republican Sen. Marco Rubios Combatting BDS Act, which seeks to counter the global Boycott, Divest and Sanctions movement against Israel over its treatment of Palestinians and the settlements.
Rubios Combatting BDS Act, would affirm the legal authority of state and local governments to restrict contracts and take other actions against contractors that engaged in BDS conduct. Several states are facing lawsuits after taking action against contractors who are conducting BDS boycotts of Israel. Enemies of Israel are trying to say the BDS movement is free speech. Democrats are blocking Rubios bill.
While Rubios bill would give more teeth to laws protecting Israel and will clarify some important details of the laws, most people dont know that there are already laws criminalizing much of the BDS movement. Supporters of Israel and democracy in the Middle East need to re-discover the Anti-Boycott Act.

The recent BDS movement is a far more sophisticated, upgraded version of the 1970s-era Islamic boycott of Israel. The original boycott movement never really ended. The BDS movement merely dressed up the old boycott with a newer public relations campaign.
In response to the 70s boycott of Israel, the United States Congress passed two laws to prohibit participation of U.S. citizens or companies in international economic boycotts or embargoes. These were 1977 amendments to the Export Administration Act and the Ribicoff Amendment to the 1976 Tax Reform Act.
The Office of Antiboycott Compliance is charged with administering and enforcing the Antiboycott Laws under the Export Administration Act. Those laws discourage, and in some circumstances, prohibit U.S. companies from furthering or supporting the boycott of Israel sponsored by the Arab League, and certain other countries, including complying with certain requests for information designed to verify compliance with the boycott.
U.S. law prohibits Agreements to refuse or actual refusal to do business with or in Israel or with blacklisted companies. Part of the enforcement mechanism requires every U.S. company to immediately report to the Office of Antiboycott Compliance any request that the company certify its participation in the anti-Israel boycott.
After passage of the Anti-Boycott laws, the Arab League boycott of Israel faded, but it never officially ended. Enforcement faded as the threat seemed to shrink.

Welcome to the Democrat, political party, the hater of all Jews & Israel. Well, American voters, you certainly got what you voted for...anti-Jews by the dozen. LMAO!!!
In other words, Rubio’s motion is only a repeat of a law already on the books?
Yet another reason that EVERY law should have a sunset clause. If it isn’t reviewed and re-authorized, it becomes null and void.
I think 5 years or so is a reasonable length of time for the effective period of any and every law. If it is effective, there should be no problem with re-authorization.
Constitutional Amendment, anyone?
Think about it: every lawmaker would be so busy reviewing old laws that they wouldn’t have time to think up new ways to infringe on our rights!
And yet, the majority of American Jews are supporters of the Democrat Party. Just as mind boggling as the majority of blacks supporting the party of the KKK. Leopards do not lose their spots, they just have gotten better at disguising them.
Has the US enacted such “special protections” to any Country other than Israel?
As Milton Himmelfarb said, “Jews earn like Episcopalians, and vote like Puerto Ricans.”
The real true answer is: a good number, but, not all, American Jews are not too bright when it comes to politics. How any of them could remain Democrats is a question for the ages. Maybe they are all high on reefer, booze or just plain nuts!!!
“Activists in the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement”
I’m sure these folks would also boycott Iran for human rights abuses...oh wait I’ve gone delusional.
Jews go 75-80% to the Rats. Madness yes, but they pioneered virtue signaling.
there’s a federal anti-boycott law? Then how were the left able to boycott north carolina when NC refused to allow pervert men to use women’s bathrooms?
All I can say is that in my younger days, I spent time in Israel working logistics with some of the folks in the IAF & the IDF and the USAF and Egyptian Air Force. These folks from Israel & Eygpt were tough as nails. I could go deeper, but, I won’t. But, as long as we have Trump as POTUS, the Jews in America and the Jews in Israel will be both our Brother & Sisters in maintaining freedom & liberty, and our faithful loyal allies. With Democrats like the Obama ilk, the question mark arises.
It seems like domestic Jews, fueled to a large extent by media generally and Hollywood specifically, are almost embarrassed by Israel. Crazy. It should be a source of pride. That little scrap of land over achieves on so may levels. But many US Jews are right there with the BDS idiots. Truly mystifying.
Re. NC boycott: The anti boycott law only applies to international transactions.
Many domestic Jews have abandoned the Torah in favor of the New York Times editorial pages.
ah ok thanks
By the standards the left has established, it’s entirely fair to call these people Nazis.
Alinskyize the left.

Our anti-boycott laws date to the mid 70s, nothing particularly new. They're the inverse of US boycotts. The US boycotts Cuba or Iran or South Africa, Americans and American firms are required to follow the boycott. Nothing to do with speach, you can praise the Ayatollahs and Castro all you want, just can't do business with them. The existing anti-boycott laws allow the Executive Branch, specifically the State Department, to declare a boycott by a foreign power to be against our interests, and criminalizing participation. The State Dept. opposed the Arab boycotts, so Americans and American firms can not formally participate. But they can criticize Israel all they want. And boycott Israeli products personally. Currently they're exploring ways to protect Taiwan. State has never listed BDS, which is why various states have passed their own bans. I've read the reason State has never banned BDS is that the law deals with boycotts by foreign states, and there is no palestinian state. Personally I think given their recognition by various UN agencies, it would be worth listing. If State or the administration opposed BDS. See if it describes court challenges. Or change the law, the issue has pretty strong bilateral support, though it's tough to get by the ability of a single Senator to hold a bill.
This month, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., introduced... Combatting BDS Act, would affirm the legal authority of state and local governments to restrict contracts and take other actions against contractors that engaged in BDS conduct.... Enemies of Israel are trying to say the BDS movement is free speech. Democrats are blocking Rubios bill.
The Anti-Boycott Act is intended and designed to prevent boycotts that severely frustrate U.S. foreign policy.
Also, the Arab League boycott of Israel was different from any other boycott.
It was an ENFORCED boycott in which no one could do business with oil-rich Middle Eastern countries OR anyone else participating in the boycott unless they participate.
This is really an extension of Islamic Jihad which seeks to coerce the entire world to submit to the desert moon goddess Allah.
This was not a voluntary boycott like North Carolina.
This was if you don’t join us in boycotting Israel, then you are blackballed from doing business with any company participating in the boycott or the Arab League nations.
“In other words, Rubios motion is only a repeat of a law already on the books?”
No, while it is true that everyone is ignoring the law already on the books.
And it is true that politicians repeatedly try to sell us on solving problems that are already solved and passing laws that duplicate laws already existing,
Rubio’s law is designed to EXPAND ON the existing law and strengthen it.
Among other things, Rubio’s law would empower State governments and local governments to refuse to do business with companies participating in the BDS boycott of Israel.
