President Trump hosted a number of Republican and Democratic House lawmakers at the White House Wednesday to negotiate over border security and end the ongoing government shut down.
“The President and his team had a constructive meeting with bipartisan members of the problem solvers caucus. They listened to one another and now both have a good understanding of what the other wants. We look forward to more conversations like this,” Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said about the meeting.
These House Democrats in the centrist Problem Solvers Caucus met today with @realDonaldTrump in the Situation Room to discuss the shutdown:

The Problem Solvers Caucus was founded in 2013 and currently has 43 members. Here's more background from Ballotpedia:
The Problem Solvers Caucus began as an initiative of the group No Labels, which was founded in 2013 to develop a bipartisan strategic agenda for federal legislation. In the group's announcement of the Problem Solvers Caucus, No Labels co-chair Jon Huntsman said, "The members of this new caucus are heeding the call of millions of Americans who want a new politics of problem solving in our government. It’s a bold move and a challenge to the way business is typically done in Washington. Our country needs more leaders like these willing to rise above the partisanship and get things done."[1]
In an opinion piece describing No Labels, co-chairs Huntsman and Joe Lieberman described the Problem Solvers Caucus as "dozens of members of Congress, fostering collaboration and teamwork across party lines. These members of Congress have listened to the message, liked what they heard and are committed to an elevated level of cross-party cooperation."
Ahead of the meeting, the Problem Solver Democrats insisted the government must be reopened before real negotiations can begin. President Trump has repeatedly rejected this proposal.
In a statement, Democrats in the Problem Solvers Caucus who are at the WH right now insist that conversations about the country's issues "can only begin in earnest" once the government is reopened -- which is in line with the rest of the D party pic.twitter.com/8vR2uDSdXn— Ashley Killough (@KilloughCNN) January 16, 2019
So, here we are.
Been involved in politics for over 40 years. Sorry you're so inept.
In other words, they met and accomplished absolutely nothing. Fine by me. Didn’t expect any other outcome.
Why are the RATS wasting our taxpayer dollars bringing up proposals that President Trump has rejected many times before? What part of, “That ain’t gonna happen on my watch” don’t they understand. Thick headed libs.
Sucessfully?
Sorry you're so inept.
Well we'll see which is the inept one.
Of course.
Now, it appears that with you, engaging in some kind of worthwhile conversation is a waste of effort given your history of multiple vacuous posts, so I shall wish you a lovely day!
Ditto. Glad to see this. I was worried.
not worth having a gangstamint without the wall, it would only be the mob on the citizens backs, go trump give me liberty or death..lets face it now, there is no more tomorrow in a war
1986: The year Reagan gave amnesty to the illegals, while getting nothing that was promised in return.
And the Democrats never needed to deviate from that play book because it always worked before. ...Until now!
Okay thanks. I’ve spelled it like Harry’s name for a long time. Most folks know what I mean. Hey, I’m actually glad to know the proper form.
Thanks.
I can still picture my grandfather and I sitting in the living room listening to play by play with Harry Carry and Jack Buck.
Harry was a character, a very biased announcer for the Cardinals. It was funny to listen to his demeanor change if the game wasn’t going too good for the Cardinals.
Take care.
Smile...
Spelling has always been a problem for me. It comes naturally for some folks. I must have been playing baseball when the spelling gene was handed out.
Double Harrys (hairys)...
Oh my. Smile...
So...one option. Not going to please everyone but here’s my idea.
1) Cut a deal with the Problem Solvers coalition. Re-open government for a couple months in exchange for a significant portion of wall funding. $2-3 billion. Both sides claim a win.
2) Once funded, Army Corps of Engineers builds the biggest HESCO barrier ever for cheap. It’s literally just canvas and dirt or sand—but it works. Reinforce it with c-wire. We get the wall quickly and even on the shoestring budget. HESCO barrier demonstration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G38VXkIFSG8
3) Start aggressively deporting DACA Dreamers until Dems fund additional border security, such as more agents and reinforced fencing.
We need to flip the equation and make the dems show “good faith” for once. Of course, they never will. It’s who they are.
ok - got it. Thnks.
Not that big a deal Jackibutterfly
take care...
