But sometimes, the shortest ones are the best
Libbylu cashing out was EPIC
I can’t find it right off. It was definitely a busy thread that day.
Ill get flamed for saying this, but there was a time when most Freepers were just like humblegunner. You posted a vanity or a blog or a newbie comment or a duplicate or somesuch like? You got flamed, you got told off, you had Viking kitties called out, the thread police were everywhere.
Today I politely asked a newbie to please post more than two sentences to his excerpted blog next time. I was lucky. Only got flamed at twice by Freepers.
WTH?
I miss FR as it used to be.
Blogpimps are a different creature. They post excerpts to their blog only to get hits. Look up their posting history, and it’s 1 of, 1 of, 1 of. Never participate in a conversation. Sometimes bordering on spam. Or advertisements.
That’s who gets ‘bashed’.
W1n1 has a poorly written blog that gets posted on FR.
I think it’s very likely a group dominated by mentally ill people, and possibly OCD sufferers. I feel bad for them and can’t imagine taking the time from my day to hunt down and comment on posts I dont like. I mean, if that means something to you, then how meaningless must the rest of your life be?
That just might be mainly who I’m talking about. But there are others. I guess we keep them around for the entertainment value.
I remember that too....
I just think if you want to say something ‘just post’ it on a thread addressing the topic. Better yet find an article to post rather than these vanity threads...which use to be those left when someone had decided to leave FR.
If they’re going to post any blog or article even then at least respond to the people posting interesting responses. Too many just drop and leave.
I even miss the viking kitties and lightening strikes..oh were they fun!
More than once, some self-promoting blogger has put up an important story that I had not yet seen."
The bloggerbashers know better than you.
Sort of like a soup Nazi. A kind of blogging Polizei. How dare those bloggers try and self promote! And how dare you for wanting to get info outside the beltway alphabets, or their personally approved list of news sources. Thats just not allowed!!
Follow what they demand or else...
Where do you think the bloggers get it?
To read comments later.
You prove his point - how about going the extra distance and defend all the FReeloaders who use the services provided - just like the illegal invaders they hate so much do....please defend those who don’t donate anything to FR....please.....
More than once, some self-promoting blogger has put up an important story that I had not yet seen.
The main objection by humblegunner and others like him seems to be the bloggers who only post teasers (clickbait) to drive traffic to their blog site. Since they control their own content, they are free to post the entire story if they choose, and if the story really is important they should do just that.
And readers who find the posting interesting or useful will then voluntarily go to the blog site in question to read more and bookmark the site for future reading.
Another issue are bloggers who post and run. These never engage in discussion of what they have written, probably because they can't censor comments as they can at their blog site.
Thirdly, once posted on FR, the poster has limited ability to alter the content. In a sense, FR serves as an archive of informational snapshots that can be useful for research purposes in the future, or embarrassing, as the case may be.
Fourthly, FR exists on voluntary contributions by users like myself who feel that FR is worth the investment. FR allows NO advertising. Some posters have chosen to use FR to promote their own for-profit endeavors such as books, even to the extent (as one notorious never-Trumper ex-FReeper did) of posting screen captures of their Amazon listings.
Posting clickbait excerpts from ad-infested (and sometimes malware-infected) blog sites accomplishes the same thing. That lowers the blogger to the level of the MSM sources who demand excerpting to protect their ad revenue.
Bloggers are certainly free to choose how they control their material, and readers on this site are equally free to react to blog postings as they see fit, as always within the overall rules established by the site owners.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed.
I'm not OCD!
I'm not!
I'm not!
I'm not!
I'm not!
I'm not!
Wait, was that 6 times?
I'm not!!!
Hey! Start you’re own thread!
Is that YOUR “vanity” (a dressing table.) ?
Only YOUR vanities are worthy because of your vast knowledge and education?
I find my 69 years of life experience and my high IQ more worthy than some C- college education, but I don’t want to brag.
Your. Oy’m blaming Otto Kor Wrecked, Oy yam...
THIS is a vanity thread. LOL
Precisely!
