So your vanity thread is news because you think it is important?
What if everyone did that?

Immanuel Kant was a real pissant
Who was very rarely stable
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar
Who could think you under the table
David Hume could out-consume
Wilhelm Freidrich Hegel
And Wittgenstein was a beery swine
Who was just as schloshed as Schlegel
There’s nothing Nietzsche couldn’t teach ya
‘bout the raising of the wrist
Socrates, himself, was permanently pissed
John Stuart Mill, of his own free will
On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill
Plato, they say, could stick it away
Half a crate of whiskey every day
Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle
And Hobbes was fond of his dram
And Rene Descartes was a drunken fart
“I drink, therefore I am.”

You make a very good point about charging for blogs and vanities. Years ago I suggested that no one be permitted to start a thread unless they were a contributing member of Free Republic.
Allow anyone here the opportunity to reply to a thread, but to post one? You have to pay a nominal monthly fee. JR shot that idea down. He has his reasons why. But I thought then, and think now its a good idea.

Because most of them are stupid, reciting talking points they've heard elswehere, adding nothing to the conversation except self-stroking their own pitiful little egos. I'd band them in a heartbeat if I was boss, but obviously they've got a safe haven here. My complaint is that most of them have no particular life experience or educational background or other qualification to be worthy of a platform. If they wish to join FR and opine here, that's great, it's what we all do. But attempting to set themselves at a higher level by pimping their blogs is just egomamia and assholery of the highest order. OR you could just scroll past it and go onto the next post.

Don’t do stupid videos. (Mine not yours).
As an aside, I once came across a “Total Eclipse of the Heart” video cut with menopausal subtitles.
Yeah, I laughed. Anything wrong with that??

The horseshoe in the mirror image is upside down. And the vanity could use a few more candles (though my father-in-law said candles used up all the available oxygen...he was serious anti-candle. I think I caught his perspective. One Christmas we gave him a candle for Christmas...it had a silver dollar buried deep inside. He was a great saver, and this drove him crazy. For the next year, we would lite it whenever he visited. He appreciated the joke.)
Thanks for the smile. Hope you had one in return.

Publius and I are always talking about a "Vanity Tax" particularly for those here who abuse Jim's graciousness.
Yes, we have serial Vanity Posters Abusers who sometimes post up to 3 Vanities in a single day! Talk about being self-important!
As you know, the vast majority of Vanities are no more than commentary that could easily be posted onto a legitimate posted article already running on the forum, but the Vanity Poster decides his or her comment merits its own thread!
Like nullandvoid asked, "what if we all did this?" Indeed! The only way to stop Abusers is to shame them!
Humblegunner keeps watch on the FReeploading Bloggers!

Whenever a vanity gets posted, I would love it if the folks who keep our fundraising threads alive would jump in and rate it (bid it) for a vanity tax.
Some vanities should have their authors pony up $50 to keep it from being deleted by the mods, and some of the worst offenders should have to pony up $500. That will get things under control quickly enough.

Depends on the subject matter.
During the mid terms, my not yet 18 daughter received a bona fide absentee ballot.
I was very alarmed and wanted to get the word out that this was happening and what other members thoughts were.
If someone else posts a vanity and I think it’s kind of frivolous I just skip over it.

I liked FR better before. People really engaged with their opinions on matters... too often now it’s just one liners dropped like a twitter thread.
