The Pittsburgh City Council is pushing a ban on AR-15s and other commonly-owned semiautomatic rifles, as well BB guns and starter pistols.
The ban would prohibit the possession of some weapons, while limiting the possession of other weapons to ones own land and/or residence.
Regarding assault weapons, the City Council says, It shall be unlawful to manufacture, sell, purchase, transport, carry, store, or otherwise hold in ones possession within the City of Pittsburgh an assault weapon.
They define assault weapons as weapons that run the gamut between full-auto to semiautomatic. In other words, a machine gun with select-fire switch is an assault weapon and an AR-15which fires one round per trigger pullis an assault weapon too.
Semiautomatic shotguns are listed as assault weapons if they have two of the following features:
A folding or telescoping stock
A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon
A fixed magazine capacity in excess of five rounds An ability to accept a detachable magazine
The ban also references facsimile firearms, which...

Machine guns are legal in Pennsylvania, with appropriate Federal taxes and paperwork.
How could they miss those dangerous slingshots?
They forgot one.
Patently unconstitutional per se.
Just don’t get caught with a pop tart gun.

What about cap ‘guns’? after all aren’t they entry ‘guns’?
My kids used to make guns out of grilled cheese sandwiches too. When I was a kid, and a toy gun wasn’t handy, the right shaped tree twig would do the job.
Considering that ALL laws limiting the ownership and possession (including carrying) of arms is directly and unequivocally unconstitutional (”...shall not be infringed”), why Pittsburg’s idiot circus is attempting to do is 1776-worthy. They are demonstrating exactly WHY the framers of the Constitution included the 2nd Amendment - tyranny. Period
He also warned them that they are probably committing a criminal offense if they move forward with this. The State preempted local cities from doing this stuff and violating that section of the Code is a Misdemeanor.
But even if you didn’t have those measurable “needs” - the 2nd Amendment doesn’t include a criteria of “need” - except that they framers saw it as needful that citizens, being the foundation of any and all protections and defense of this nation and further - the protection of order PERIOD - that all citizens have the right to keep and bear arms.
” What about entry pop tarts ? “
Go directly to Leavenworth.
....or, maybe just death row for wrong think.
It’s safe to go after the law-abiding.
Go after actual bad actors and you could get hurt!
Given the Pennsylvania Constitution’s friendliness toward gun rights (it provides broader rights than the US Constitution), this is a pointless exercise. An ordinance like this would not survive for long in the appellate courts.
Exactly right. We have a ‘Bill of Rights’ and not a ‘Bill of Needs’, so whether I choose to spend my wealth on muscle cars or firearms, it’s nobody’s business how many or which type I choose to own.
They are just farting out of their mouths again.
I just got my license to sell firearms from the AGH Sheriff office last week. I’m a class 07 FFL just north of the city and keep tabs as best I can.
They try this and they will lose more business than they know that is firearms related.
AR’s are hot cakes around my parts with young men turning 18 and getting their first rifle.
Besides which; not much a city counsel can do when in PA it is legal to sell “long rifles” (including AR’s) to each other privately w/o PICS (PA’s version of NICS).
It is still that way. Don’t let the blowhards mislead.
There was a rally outside the county courthouse a couple weeks back; lots of people open-carrying AR’s and other rifles.
When I was at the county sheriffs office last week (week day) for licenses (sale and ccw) the place was PACKED.
It is estimated that 12-13% of PA citizens carry now.
There is also talk of un-making Philly a Tier-1 city.
If they pass the ban, the members of the Pittsburgh City Council should be banned from Texas and other states as people of undesirable and immoral character.
