Once again, House Republican leaders last week found themselves having to answer for the offensive statements of Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa. This time King further confirmed his insensitivity and evidently racist approach to public policy.
The New York Times quoted King asking, "White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization how did that language become offensive?"
In a frank Washington Post op-ed, Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., asked, Why are Republicans accused of racism? Because were silent on things like this.
To their credit, many Republican office holders were quick to condemn the provocative remarks, with Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst tweeting, I condemn Rep. Steve Kings comments on white supremacy; they are offensive and racist and not representative of our state of Iowa.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, was also fed up, telling NBCs Meet the Press, What Steve King said was stupid. It was stupid, it was hurtful, it was wrong. And he needs to stop it. I think all of us ought to be united regardless of party in saying white supremacism, white nationalism is hatred, it is bigotry, it is evil, it is wrong. And I think we need that clarity. And I'm certainly going to urge everyone to provide that clarity."
Such acknowledgments are important and necessary. But words are not enough. We have had tweets, apologies and talk. Enough words. Now we need action. It is time to do what is right and remove King from his position on the House Judiciary Committee. We cannot afford to be silent.

Yellow journalism
I wish Democrat leaders would hold their people to this same standard.
Young Jason seems to have really taken to his new role as a mediot....
Oh yes? But no one ever has to pay for their anti-white anti-Christian remarks?
I despise the way Republicans abandon one of their own at the slightest hint of controversy. Really, what cowards.
The only people talking about white supremacy are Democrats, hoping to dupe idiot voters. What King said IS stupid, at least the direct quote is.
It would have been nice to see the GOP go after Obama the way they are going after Steve King.
Obviously, King’s view of the world is wrong. It’s a coincidence that the entire world wants to live in majority white countries, and it’s racist that there aren’t enough of us to give them all the lives they deserve. The whole country could be devoid of white people, but nothing would change as long as there was the Constitution. Lol, it’s hard to even type that nonsense.
This should piss someone off...
I support Steve King.
Call me a White supremacist. We will have fun.

And, once again, the Republicans are goaded into shooting themselves.
Right after Samantha Bee gets fired for her “feckless c***” comment and after Tlaib gets censured for calling the sitting president a MFer. And I’m sure there are plenty of other examples of comments that have caused offence.
What King said about ILLEGAL ALIENS is NOT racist - just an accurate observation.
“They arent all valedictorians; they werent all brought in by their parents; for everyone whos a valedictorian, theres another 100 out there that they weigh 130 pounds, and theyve got calves the size of cantaloupes because theyre hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert.
I heard that quote and thought, he must not be using a teleprompter because I’m pretty sure he didn’t mean to say “white supremicist”. But I tend to cut people slack when they pretty clearly misspeak.
Does anyone remember when “white supremicist was considered a-ok? I don’t. I don’t think he does either. I think he was exposing that his comment was really about equating nationalism with supremism. There is a difference. And I’m a nationalist and I’m white. That makes me a “white nationalist”. There is nothing wrong with that.
Meh - what he said wasnt that big of a deal.
Black supremacy is not only an allowed ideology its supported by SPLC and the Democrats. (See Obamas church - see the support for Bation of Islam)
Who is Chaffetz to advise anybody.
I can’t look at him without thinking “QUITTER.”
Make statements about the vile things so many dims are spouting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In a nation with a first amendment, the only consequences he should face is possible loss of his re-election bid.
Srsly? WOW! But, as expected any more.
Chaffetz is a Cheap Labor Express stooge.
The GOP is full of them.
And skrew Fox News, too, while I'm at it.

The Black Caucus should pass judgement.
He is mainly in trouble because Paul Ryan went after him for anti-Soros remarks.
And then he was interviewed by an Austrian paper and told them that he thought “the great replacement” was real. That globalist elites are deliberately replacing the white peoples in nations where they had been a majority, and intended to flood in minorities form the 3rd world to become the new majority.
I agree with him on both.
