Wall Impasse Frustrates Many Newly Elected House Democrats
Wall Street Journal ^ | January 13th, 2019 | By Natalie Andrews and Kristina Peterson

WASHINGTON—As the partial government shutdown stretches on, some House Democrats have grown concerned by what they see as the absence of a clear strategy from party leaders over how to end it.

Some newly elected Democrats are increasingly frustrated that they are taking complaints from angry constituents without having a mapped-out plan to end the partial shutdown—which became the longest in modern history over the weekend. Many believe they were elected to Congress to try to end its dysfunction and had hoped to be reaching a bipartisan compromise over border security to reopen the government.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) enjoys broad support among her caucus just weeks after Democrats took back control of the chamber and elected her its leader, and few dispute her opposition to building a border wall. Yet while the wall for many has become a toxic symbol of President Trump’s immigration agenda, some Democrats would rather be emphasizing an effort to reach an agreement with Mr. Trump and congressional Republicans.

“There’s a number of us on the Democratic side who are quite concerned that we’re not working on negotiated positions and taking the bull by the horns and trying to think about what it would look like,” said Rep. Elissa Slotkin, a new Michigan lawmaker and former Central Intelligence Agency analyst.

Chuck and Nancy have to keep nearly 300 politicians in line while under great pressure.

So far, credit to them for an excellent job.

However, all POTUS needs is self discipline and will. Only he can agree/disagree with a particular course for the executive.

And there will never be enough votes to override a veto.

They're not frustrated.

They're pissed because Trump refuses to play their game and roll over like Republicans before him has, in the sake of "Bipartisanship."

I was in a nice convenience store in a western suburb of Minneapolis yesterday. Sign on the door said they can’t take EBT’s at this time.

the absence of a clear strategy from party leaders over how to end it.

So the old strategy of the Democrats shouting "NO!" until the Republican surrender isn't working this time?

Their best hope to get out of this is wait until enough quisling RINOs get wobbly and decide to support a veto proof majority. I think the likelihood of that happening given enough time, is 60/40 in favor. In other words, it’s more likely than not that if this goes on long enough, the RINOs will hand the dems a major, major victory.

I think EBT cards are recharged monthly by the several States. Funded of course by the feds but some States better utilize their funds than others. I imagine it will be a ripple effect as various States run out of funds. It will be blood in the streets.

Dems who defeated Rs are most concerned. They are vulnerable. It was THEIR victories that gave the Speaker’s gavel back to Nancy but she doesn’t realize that. Those from solid blue districts not so much concerned, nor vulnerable, not would they alone constitute a majority. Think about that, Nancy, while the gavel is still hot in your hand.

It is perhaps my cynicism but I’m with you on the 60/40. Plain and simple they hate Trump and that makes it much too simple for them. The Machine ALWAYS goes too far when the threat is this big.

FR’s In all of those districts instead of preaching to the choir should be making a racket as in noise in their respective precincts and here is one way they could be doing so. I don’t have the tech stuff to present it here .But here is an idea I’m using.

I Made up a leaflet with a pix of those December invasion earlier postings here in FR http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3697570/posts Put a caption underneath it reading

pix from www.freerepublic.com/ 10pt type Caption 24 or 36pt

Center for Immigration Studies Reports
Each one of these invaders will cost US
$82,191
but (name congress or senator) won’t
let Trump stop this

Democratic “every vote counts” rhetoric aside, there is now only one vote in the House imo, and that vote belongs to Speaker Pelosi.

President Obama in 2013:

"...one faction, of one party, in one House of Congress, in one branch of government, doesn't get to shut down the entire government, just to refight the results of an election." (At the 42-second mark.)
