In one of contemporary historys intriguing caroms, European politics just now is a story of how one decision by a pastors dutiful daughter has made life miserable for a vicars dutiful daughter. Two of the worlds most important conservative parties are involved in an unintended tutorial on a cardinal tenet of conservatism, the law of unintended consequences, which is that the unintended consequences of decisions in complex social situations are often larger than, and contrary to, those intended.
Thats the elephantine lead of George Wills recent column, headlined Todays Germany is the best Germany the world has seen. The real story comes way down in paragraph six, where Will explains: No European nation was as enchanted as Germany was by Barack Obamas studied elegance and none is more repelled by Donald Trumps visceral vulgarity.
So its really all about Trump, which should be no surprise for George Will. He was hailed as the best writer, any subject, by the Washington Journalism Review and the dean of conservative journalists by Andrew Ferguson in an October 2017 Weekly Standard piece titled The Greatness of George Will.
If Trump is Nominated, the GOP must keep him out of the White House, ran the headline on Wills April 29, 2016 column, in which he decried Republican quislings who were slinking into support of the most anti-conservative presidential aspirant in their partys history. The quislings would render themselves ineligible to participate in the partys reconstruction.
Two months later, Will announced a change in his voter registration to unaffiliated, citing Trumps complaint about a Mexican judge. Will said he joined the Republican Party because I was a conservative, and I leave it for the same reason: Im a conservative.

Today’s Germany is the least dangerous Germany the world has seen since before the days of Rome ... but in the military sense only ...
... however, as an avenue for the introduction of dangerous barbarians bent on destruction of Western Civilization into Europe, however, it is perhaps more dangerous than it has ever been, since the days of the Roman Empire ...
George Will has always been incredibly full of himself.
George Will doesnt like what Trump has done because hes too rough a felllow.
Like Democrats are creatures of pure reason and light. What an idiot.
Will and his fellow never-trump cucks are more than happy to build castles of neo-conservative virtue and purity in the clouds, while back in the real world, the Left holds power and burns down the country.
Trump’s achievement of actual conservative policy outcomes is driving these irrelevant losers mad.
"After all that, and a lot more, conservative pope George Will hails Barack Obamas studied elegance. So the true back story to Wills hatred of Donald Trump is gushing admiration for his predecessor. Like Winston Smith in George Orwells 1984, conservative George Will had won the victory over himself. He loved Barack Obama.
George Will never really understood Capitalism btw....
“Studied elegance” is an odd way to describe Hussein’s cheap suit double talk and New Age gobbledygook.
George Will, typical Hillary Voter, F him and his Bow Tie.
I remember seeing him during the Bush 43 Presidency at CPAC officiating the Reagan Dinner.
If I knew then what I know now I would have Booed him.
Apparently Will thinks Conservatism is something that should only be talked about, not implemented. This, from the same guy who sees Baseball as a metaphore, not a sport.
I despise Little Georgie Will and Little Billy Kristol. Two pompous a**es who have never held down a real job in their lives.
If you're OK with a Democrat being appointed as a judge to the Federal courts, you're a Democrat.
George Will loves Braaaap 0bammy, who appointed dozens of Left-wing Democrats to the Federal courts.
That makes George Will a Democrat.
He seems like he might have been happier as an aloof, little school teacher in Germany in 1939.
I can think of no more damning indictment of any American political leader than the Germans being enchanted by him. I can think of no more ringing an endorsement than the Germans’ disdain for him.
I say this as one who lived there, speaks the language and has partly German roots. Collectively they are a complete disaster. They have the worst political impulses in the world. They’re great at making cars or chemicals or beer. Many of them are very nice and Germans make great Americans, but all too often they make lousy Germans.
George Will is nearly unique in that he likes to read his own opinion.
Once when Will was one of only a few “conservative” voices he seemed consrervative and intelligent, but that was only in comparison to the vast field of left imbeciles that he was judged against. Now in hindsight it is easy to see what a sick twisted little man he is and actually always was.
George Will is a piece of shit.
