Buy bags? Greed on greed...
But don’t stop there!
They should put the shopping cart in coin operated cart dispensers...Charge 25 cents for a cart! And how about charging another 25 cents to park in the market parking lot!
I would imagine one disadvantage of reusable bags over single use plastic bags are germs.
I would be interesting to have a lab do an analysis of both bags and report the results.
Aldi’s groceries charge a quarter to use a cart. When/if you return the cart to the store, as opposed to leaving the cart willie nillie in the parking lot, you get your quarter back. Seems to work well.
My sister lives in MA and she has to buy her garbage bags special at the store. Failure to use these specific garbage bags results in fines and fees.
Is that your area too ?
God i hate that stupid state.
“No, doing away with plastic will shut a LOT of greeny weeny mouths.”
No it won’t.
They’ll just latch on to another non-issue as their issue.
No, that's a lie ... I'm 71 yrs old.
And I DO remember all of that.
I never gave it much thought because I knew instinctively they were all full of shit (how's THAT for commeraderie, eh?)
Now with a few years under my belt, the obvious is obvious ... paper is better.
The best way to protest the reusable bags is to get some from each store.
Then use the competitor’s reusable bag (hopefully with a big logo on it) wherever you shop.
Gotta have fun with this!
“Seems to me that the Market Basket stores have bent over backward to find a job for everyone.”
I’d rather see them employed trying to earn their keep than have them as a drag on society.
That inconvenience is brought to ya by millions of illegals, many of which don’t drive, don’t have a car, and they always simply dump the carts in front in front of other people’s homes so the markets had to contract on people with small trucks to gather up the abandoned carts all over the cities.
No it won't. They will just move on to their next outrage over packaged foods on the grocery shelves. Plants that make paper bags and cardboard containers will be the next "enemies of the environment".
There is always another campaign waiting to start.
The plastic ban is not a ban as the stores offer the plastic bags and charge .10 to .25 each here in California. I believe the money is divided up between the store owner and the democrat party. In short bribery/kickback.
After all you can get plastic bags for the meat and deli and vegetables etc at no extra charge.
I did that. Bought a case of them off Amazon. The key is to remember to take them in the store with you. Took me about a year. Every time Id get up to the register Id think damn! I forgot my bags again.
I still hate having to take my own bags.
My local gym does the same thing with lockers: you put in a quarter, lock the door, and get your quarter back when you return for your stuff. Works fine - I’ve been using the same quarter for five years ;-)
Always liked paper. As long as they’re well packed, you can line several across the back seat and they’ll stay in place. Stuff in plastic bags wants to roll out.
Also happening - sort of - in Somers Point New Jersey, near Atlantic City - not a ban exactly, but stores are required to charge five cents for each plastic bag used - and they get to keep the five cents - supposed to discourage shoppers from using plastic, but really only extra income for the shops......
In Vail and Avon, Colorado, they will give you a paper bag but only if you pay 10 cents each for them. The paper bags are the old style that are very difficult to carry b/c they have no handles (I am so angry when I realize I have forgotten to bring bags!). I went to the WalMart in Avon yesterday and they were completely out of bags. People were driving their carts out to the parking lot and loading everything into their cars individually. I feel badly b/c I had brought my own bags...
No, the area I visited doesn’t have that depth of statism. What you described is something else. Wow!
I solved that by tying the handles together. It worked like a charm.
While I am philosophically opposed to the government meddling in how a business decides which bagging approach works best for their clients, at LEAST I have a chance to pick my environmentally-unsound-but-better-for-my-family's-utility-curve plastic.
I would be interesting to have a lab do an analysis of both bags and report the results.
I don't love it when the side of freedom is proven right at the expense of others' health, but a similar "unintended consequence" of "Do this for your own good" was posted here regarding how it Looks Like This Obamacare Program Has Led to More People Dying.
I would not be surprise at all, if months/years after forced paper bagging there was a statistically significant uptick in localized health problems.
