Also happening - sort of - in Somers Point New Jersey, near Atlantic City - not a ban exactly, but stores are required to charge five cents for each plastic bag used - and they get to keep the five cents - supposed to discourage shoppers from using plastic, but really only extra income for the shops......

As is usual, NJ gets it half-right vs full statist like in MA. At least you have a "choice" in NJ. I experienced the same thing in CA when I visited - you can pay the extra dime for a plastic bag out there.

While I am philosophically opposed to the government meddling in how a business decides which bagging approach works best for their clients, at LEAST I have a chance to pick my environmentally-unsound-but-better-for-my-family's-utility-curve plastic.
