Thanks to a December 5 ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit, New Jersey's ban on gun magazines that hold more than 10 rounds took effect on December 10. By that date, all owners of heretofore legal "large capacity magazines" (LCMs) were required to surrender them to police, render them inoperable, modify them so they cannot hold more than 10 rounds, or sell them to authorized owners. Those who failed to do so are guilty of a fourth-degree felony, punishable by a maximum fine of $10,000 and up to 18 months in prison.
How many of New Jersey's 1 million or so gun owners have complied with the ban by turning LCMs in to law enforcement agencies? Approximately zero, judging from an investigation by Ammoland writer John Crump. Crump, an NRA instructor and gun rights activist, "reached out to several local police departments in New Jersey" and found that "none had a single report of magazines turned over." He also contacted the New Jersey State Police, which has not officially responded to his inquiry. But "two sources from within the State Police," speaking on condition of anonymity, said "they both do not know of any magazines turned over to their agency and doubted that any were turned in."

We have the same ridiculous law in CT.
Easy-peasy. All done. NJ needs to move on.
MOLON LABE.
Gun confiscation is a tall order. Yeah thats the ticket in getting gun rounds out of civilian lands.
Its like Prohibition. Some things simply run into human nature.
And apparently, there are almost zero Connecticut gun owners who own any "LCMs", AKA: "standard capacity magazines".
Else we would have turned in thousands.
And if people want them to hold more than 10 rounds, whos gonna stop them?
Not NJ.
Maybe the folks who owned any just blocked them to 10 rounds..?? There actually are responsible people left in the world..
I’m not sure what you’re thinking, but thousands of magazines were handed in, registered or moved out of state.
CT complied quite nicely, actually.
Its really about finding out who to confiscate guns from. People arent stupid.
Thats why this goes in the wastebasket and no ones complying.
The libs say we are all free to pick and choose between laws we want to follow. Not that gun owners would be falling over each other to comply anyway, but its hypocritical for anybody who flaunts the law to complain. Immigration defiance provides a rationalization for anyone to do likewise.
Anti-gun laws are a form of liberal virtue-signaling. Theyre meant to show politicians are tough on guns without really doing anything about the criminal misuse of guns.
They provide a false sense of security without really affecting the crime rate at all.
But liberal politicians can say they did something to stop dangerous guns.
How many gang bangers have been charged with carrying an illegal magazine?
This will get worse before it gets better (if we force it to get better).
With the dimbulbs in power now, we will have to decide what the tipping point is, and start saying “no” to the progs.
After “no”, it’s “hell no”, then “bring it, Obamaholes”.
Complying with such laws would not be something to brag about. And I doubt most actually complied, unless CT has a deep apparatus in place.
Children believe in Santa Claus and unicorns too.
Patriots decry such silliness and quietly stand ready.
No, we don’t. We are not required to surrender them. I still have my 17 round mags for my Ruger. I can use them at the range or keep my gun loaded with them at home. I’m certainly not saying I agree with these bans but NJ is trying to force people to turn them in.
Easy enough - put a sticker on the mags that says, "Do not insert more than 10 rounds at a time." Then give it the heed the grabbers give 2nd Amendment and Immigration laws....
I wonder who the “authorized owners” are? Probably cops and other government employees, right?
I got yer "felony" right here...
Did you really think that we want those laws to be observed? said Dr. Ferris. We want them broken. Youd better get it straight that its not a bunch of boy scouts youre up againstthen youll know that this is not the age for beautiful gestures. Were after power and we mean it. You fellows were pikers, but we know the real trick, and youd better get wise to it. Theres no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there arent enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? Whats there it that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpretedand you create a nation of lawbreakersand then you cash in on guilt. Now thats the system, Mr. Rearden, thats the game, and once you understand it, youll be much easier to deal with.
