My assessment is that only a dumbass would start a retail pot business in CA.

The CA law allows every adult to grow six plants to maturity, and keep the proceeds. And to "gift" up to an ounce to any other adult.

Additionally, retail pot costs twice as much as black market pot due to regulation and taxes.

They must have been high when they developed their business plan.

All I know is when I go to California to visit relatives, the stench of pot is everywhere. Even with the car windows rolled up, it smells like a skunk was run over on every major street corner.

Grow it on your deck or in your garden for free.

Over regulation and high taxes can destroy an entire economy, but don’t expect that idea to ever take hold in California.

Legalized pot in any state is a libertarian wet dream.

Why? God only knows.

The whole point of legalizing it is to increase the tax base. Which ALWAYS leads to more government spending.

Higher Taxes. More Spending.

This is what liberaltarians want.

Yeah, yeah. Libertarians want their freedom to trip thought life high on dope. Yet they willingly and even eagerly sacrifice other essential freedoms to live that way.

Libertarians. /hock spit.

This is the dirty little secret of legalized dope. Because what you say is true, The State must spend millions of dollars more in cracking down on black market dope and uncollected marijuana taxes.

Street pot is too available in CA, why go to a legal shop for twice the price?

And they probably spent the tax money they were hoping to realize from sales.

Colorado has the 6 plant law too. Hasn’t impeded them any. Spawned a bit of a cottage industry for non-pot roommates, gives a house more people so you can grow more plants. Sounds like the licensing and city regs are what got in the way.

Maybe they should offer free pot to homeless and pot junkies in exchange for them picking up human feces, and garbage from the sidewalk. That way they could get rid of the pooper scoopers they pay a salary to, and save money. Won’t have to pay them work benefits, since the benefit would be the free pot.
