New year, new governor, new legislature. Among Illinois Democrats, theres a thrill of excitement only Chris Matthews leg during a Barack Obama speech could appreciate. In January, Democrats will increase their control of Illinois, Cook County and suburban governments. In the Illinois House, Democrats will hold 74 seats to Republicans 44. In the Senate, Democrats will hold 40 seats to the GOPs 19. For the most part, voters swept out the suburban Republicans who have often served as the General Assemblys only fiscal disciplinarians.
So please, suburbanites. Stifle your complaints about high taxes. This is the government you chose.

Good point. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the GOP did better in Indiana in these 2018 midterms than anywhere else in the nation.
If you live in Ill, Cal or NY, sell your property now where there is still hope. Rent if you need to stay there. The Exodus will crash property values. Your immigrants cannot afford property
Colorado is just about a lost cause too.
“IL elections are about as valid as Californias.”
Yes, but the major difference between IL and CA is that CA still has, despite years of Brown’s Clowns, a decent economy. But give us time and we will figure out a way to be just as unproductive and broke as IL is already.
Illinois/Chicago...soon to become the Venezuela of the mid-west.
The fault rests with the 1964 Scotus decision Reynolds v. Sims. One man one vote negated the influence of rural counties in every state legislature.
MD’s far worse, and the exodus is heavy. A lot of them moved to VA, and it’s becoming blue. Same exodus for CT, MA, CA.

same in NY except they were Independent Democrats who worked with Republicans in the state Senate. Now the lunatics are fully in control thanks to suburban women.
IL and CA were contested by G.W. Bush in 2000......what happened to these two states?

Hey, I live in NY which is now also a pure blue state. Cuomo only won 14 counties. We were outvoted by the libs - this is NOT the government I chose, nor do I think it’s fair to say to Illinois suburbs “So please, suburbanites. Stifle your complaints about high taxes. This is the government you chose”.
They have allowed this abomination unopposed and essentially given the state of Illinois over to Satan. If I lived there I would sell my house and move ASAP.
It would be so great to be able to move, my preference is to Texas or to Tennessee. I promise to only bring conservative values because that is all I have.
This state has gone downhill so badly, and we have no real visible conservative leader who could stem the tide. Then there is Chicago and all that is wrong with that city.
All of that to say, many who flee the liberal hellholes are doing it to find a reasonable conservative place to live, not to change the new location, but to revel in living in a place where we are not second class citizens.
None of this means that I don’t agree with you about wanting to make sure that those who move there are the type of people who won’t change it for the worse. I totally get it because if you live in a conservative area, you really are blessed.
Illinois needs to replace the slogan “Land of Lincoln” with “Land of Al Capone”! Thieves to the right, thieves to the LEFT and thieves in front!
The problem as it appears to me is a lot of folks fled California and moved to Arizona, Colorado and Texas to name a few and then try to turn the state onto the one they just left.
A combination of epic-level Demonrat fraud and control (in IL, especially, the complete control by the corrupt bipartisan Combine), the rise of social leftism in the formerly heavily middle/upper class GOP suburban areas (not just in CA & IL) over the past 25 years and demographic changes with legal (nevermind illegal) immigrants favoring the Demonrats by a wide margin. All a perfect mix for national suicide, or at least pushing us closer to Civil War II: The Die-Versity Bugaboo.
Big cities are now American’s sh##holes
I think I will retract this as I remember Cook County's late, unlamented Soda Tax and previous Pate Foie Gras ban. Al was all in favor of letting the people do what they want, so long as he got his cut of the action.
I don't know who to replace him with though. We need somebody so sanctimonious and full of themselves as to be almost beyond parodying. Anybody know of a Chicago resident that meets that criteria?
KY is generally conservative, less so around Lexington and Louisville, but be forewarned that their pension crisis is worse, per capita, than IL’s. How that gets paid in the future is a sort of sword of Damocles hanging over the whole state. Also be aware that KY, as an old “Commonwealth” has a tax for freaking everything, but at least rates are not horrendous.
If you are into outdoor recreation, there are plenty of opportunities: Most are not spectacular, but most are not bad either, and if all you want to do is fish at the City Park, the “FINS” program is for the most part quite good. (Stocked ponds and small lakes with nice restrooms close by.)
Some friends of ours are looking hard at the Arkansas Ozarks (lakes).
