A federal judge lambasted former national security adviser Mike Flynn in court Tuesday, threatening to upend a proposed agreement between him and prosecutors that he should receive a lenient sentence after his extensive cooperation with investigators.
Im not hiding my disgustmy disdainfor this criminal offense, said U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan. He questioned whether Mr. Flynn had truly accepted responsibility for his crimes, including lying to FBI agents, and suggested he might require incarceration, despite prosecutors contention that Mr. Flynn deserves no jail time.
Judge Sullivan seemed especially troubled by Mr. Flynns lobbying work for Turkish interests and his attempts to undermine the foreign policy of the Obama administration during the weeks between Election Day 2016 and President Trumps inauguration. Mr. Flynn wasnt charged with crimes for those actions.
All along, you were an unregistered agent of a foreign country while serving as the national security adviser to the president of the United States, said Judge Sullivan, who was appointed by President Clinton and has a history of expressing himself vividly in court. Arguably that undermines everything this flag over here stands for. Arguably you sold your country out.

I simply pointed out that this was what the judge was thinking when he made every effort to get Flynn to back out of the deal.
The fact that Flynn is still under Mueller’s gun tells me that if this charge was concluded, Mueller could come up with a new one...and Mueller would make sure it wasn’t before this judge.
Lady Liberty must be blindfolded just like Lay Justice, that’s how all the illegals are getting in.
I agree. I couldn’t give a rat’s azz about DC pols corruption but its making this country an unbearable place and one I wish I could remove my 15 yr old son from.
That doesn’t surprise me at all. They threaten everyone, except the real crooks.
Judge imposed it. Flynn did not want it. Judge having problems accepting guilty plea from an innocent man.
I admit I’m totally shocked.
Will the WSJ apologize to Gen Flynn ?
The lefties have been brainwashed since the 60s or earlier into believing that the system is illegitimate, and have been acting accordingly, but when the Right goes the same way, there will be no institution left that has the recognized moral authority to stop what’s coming.
Thing is, a lot of those 60’s and 70’s leftists are now conservatives. They grew up. However, some didn’t. Also, it was in the 60’s that we really started listening to the rantings of the ignorant youth and actually giving it some credence. Now, we seem to give it MORE credibility than the sayings of the wise. That is probably the biggest problem we have today.
And, frankly, though the internet substantially slowed this whole thing down, it didn’t stop it. The truth is getting out, but I’m not sure it got off the line fast enough. Time will tell.
Will the WSJ apologize to Gen Flynn ?
Better question: Will General Flynn proclaim his innocence? It gets quite tiresome defending a man who won’t defend himself.
Especially since the Judge later had to apologize for bringing up the Turkish thing, since it actually wasn’t while he was working for the government.
I kind of feel it started off with Flynn deciding to lie about what he talked about, even though he had some idea that the conversation might have been taped.
It was a silly lie, a lie about something that did not matter at all, but when the government is out to get you, any lie is all they need.
Sure, Comey, Stroyk, and McCabe all lied under oath, and one of them has actually been fired for it, and none of them face a single day of jail. But that’s because government is corrupt.
This isn't proven & it isn't what Flynn pleaded to.
Couldn't agree more.
And he didn't plead to anything related to it because no charges were filed against him.
My 2 cents on this are...
...the judge clearly sees the Mueller/FBI corruption in this case and would like to throw the case out and publicly/legally trash these crooks...
...Flynn has been told that he must play ball or he’ll be prosecuted for the Turkish angle, with more court time/$$$ and potentially longer jail time...
...the DS has Flynn by the stugats
...Flynn is no Patriot in this scheme and neither will be Judge Sullivan by letting this deal go forward...
If you read this Byron York article from the Washington Examiner (a factual article) from early in this year, it is pretty clear that if there was indeed deception, it was benign.
Byron York: Comey told Congress FBI agents didn't think Michael Flynn lied.
Here is the core of it from that article: "...Despite the high level of classification, word of the Justice Department's concerns got to the press. On Jan. 12, Washington Post columnist David Ignatius reported that Flynn and Kislyak had talked. "What did Flynn say, and did it undercut U.S. sanctions?" Ignatius asked. "The Logan Act (though never enforced) bars U.S. citizens from correspondence intending to influence a foreign government about 'disputes' with the United States. Was its spirit violated?" Three days later, on Jan. 15, Vice President-elect Mike Pence (remember, this was all happening before the Trump administration took office) denied that Flynn had discussed sanctions with the Russian ambassador. "They [Flynn and Kislyak] did not discuss anything having to do with the United States' decision to expel diplomats or impose censure against Russia," Pence told CBS..."
Here is what took place as I see it:
Keep in mind all this time leading up to his interview with the FBI, Flynn did not have a copy of the transcript of the phone call with the Russian Ambassador, but he was surely aware there was one, being well versed in these things. So Comey said under oath that the FBI initially did not feel Flynn was being deceptive. Flynn went into the meeting feeling he was talking to peers to work together to resolve some issue, so his guard was down.
Apparently, the FBI fostered that, and Comey bragged about luring him into that trap. Openly bragged about it.
With all this information, that there was a transcript the FBI and Justice had, and Flynn did not have though it is a certainty he knew it existed, is it possible that Flynn did not specifically remember? When he was called on vacation in the Dominican Republic, could he have been impaired, even a little? Why would he deliberately lie, knowing there was a transcript as he surely did? And Comey, under oath, said there was no deception? In my book, the people who leaked that information (about the conversation Gen. Flynn had with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyakto) to the press should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
